Now we’ve learned that the Agriculture Dept. can STOP meatpackers from testing cattle for Mad Cow Disease. Has our government gone crazy?or is it just crazy about big money and big business, and its powerful foreignfriends?

A small Arkansas meatpacker called Creekstone Farms wanted to test every animal at its plant, to assure foreign purchasers (and Americans) that the meat was safe to eat. Sounds like a good idea, right? Lots of us would pay more for meat that we knew was guaranteed to be safe, just like we do for organic fruits and vegetables.

This would be great gear for a spy. But it turns out the Chinese have already figured out how to overcome this effect!

But a new study shows that boys do BETTER in school if there are girls in the classroom! And despite urban myths to the contrary, girls are just as good at math as boys. Boys who attend preschool classes with a majority of girls receive an intellectual boost, while preschool boys who attend majority-boy classes fall increasingly behind. But the proportion of boys to girls has no effect on the girls’ development.
