We have the scan and the pat down to thank for this: Science similar to the type used in airport body scanners could soon be used to detect everything from miniscule defects in aerospace vehicles and concrete bridges to skin cancer. There is more going on than can be seen on the surface! (NOTE: Subscribers can still listen to this show).

The technology could help medical professionals detect and monitor a variety of skin conditions in humans, including cancer and burns. It also has the potential to help Homeland Security personnel detect concealed contraband (such as weapons) or reduce the number of passenger pat downs at airports. Even homeowners could see a direct benefit from the technology as it potentially could be used to detect termite damage. And there’s more to come: Engineer Reza Zoughi says, "Further down the road, we plan to develop a wide-band camera capable of producing real-time 3-D or holographic images."

Nothing is quite as good as the real thing, and when it comes to dynamic radio shows and extraordinary edge news, unknowncountry is the real thing: We find the edge and report it objectively, without hysteria–and to prove that, we put the link of a legitimate news site at the end of every story. At last, the internet makes sense. If you agree, help us stay alive in our new (redesigned) website: Subscribe today–and come see us in Nashville in June!
