Newswise – Horses have a variety of gaits, including walking, trotting, cantering and galloping, so why do human beings only walk or run? We have the bones and muscles to perform a variety of gaits. We could even develop a brand new way of moving. Scientists got curious about this and used a computer to prove that when you have two legs, walking and running are the most energy efficient ways to move. But they do suggest we develop an alternative: an intermediate walk-run gait.

Greenhouse gases are reaching dangerous levels and oil prices are at their highest, so we desperately need a new, non-polluting fuel. We may eventually need to mine Helium 3 from the moon, but until we can get there and start shoveling it up from the surface, we need to figure out how to transport it efficiently back to Earth. In the meantime, we can fill our gas tanks with metal. No, we don’t mean that are gas tanks are MADE of metal, we mean that we can use powdered metal as a fuel.

Newswise – Quantum physics tells us that the world is much different than we have been taught in school or perceive it to be. We are aware of 3 spatial dimensions. But physicists say there are at least nine spatial dimensions, six of them hidden from us, perhaps curled up in some way so they are tiny and undetectable.

Researchers Andreas Karch and Lisa Randall are searching for the answer to the question of why we cannot perceive these extra 6 spatial dimensions. They believe the way our universe started and then diluted as it expanded favored the formation of three- and seven-dimensional realities. It’s just chance that the one we experience has three dimensions. They say, “That’s what comes out when you do the math.”
