It seems that certain forms of these objects can easily be photographed by anybody with a camera that has its flash mounted close to the lens, as do many small modern camera. What they are actually photographing, according to one observer of this phenomenon, are dust particles at close range. He makes a strong case on his website. Scientists say that magnetic fields above the largest sunspot group to appear on the surface of the sun in the past nine years are becoming unstable, and could lead to a coronal mass ejection from the sun within a few days. If this happens, the resulting magnetic storm could be exceptional. Given the right weather conditions, auroral displays could be visible as far south as the Gulf of Mexico.
While disruptions of radio communications, power blackouts and satellite transmission are unlikely, they are always possible during a solar magnetic event.

Mt. Popocatapetl, an active volcano within thirty miles of Mexico City, has formed a new lava dome. The formation of a lava dome is an indication that a new eruption is possible. At the present time, the volcano is emitting smoke from the area of the dome, but a relatively low level of siesmic activity does not suggest an immediate eruption, and Mexico’s National Disaster Prevention Center has no imminent plans to issue an alert. Popo is, however, considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, and appears to have been building toward a major eruption for the past ten years.
