One of the biggest problems facing the world in the future will be getting enough water. If we could just think of a way to remove the salt from the ocean, we would be surrounded by drinking water. Lots of scientists would like to figure out how to do just that. Now the inventor of the Segway says he has invented a machine that can take nearly any source of moisture?even ocean water, urine or sewage?and quickly turn it into safe drinking water.

Scientists in Australia, which despite being surrounded by water, is having a major drought, want to use solar power to run desalinization plants, in order to avoid the additional problem of greenhouse gas emissions, since many of these are given off by power plants that create electricity.

On the AHN website, Nidhi Sharma quotes Kamen as saying, “The water purifier makes 1,000 liters of clean water a day, and we don’t care what goes into it. And the power generator makes a kilowatt off of anything that burns.”
