You couldn’t make something like this up: A German academic believes that the reason Voyager 2, an unmanned probe that has been in space for more than 30 years, has started sending out strange messages that are confusing scientists, is because it has been taken over by extraterrestrial life.

Since its launch in 1977, Voyager 2 has been sending streams of data back to Earth for study by scientists, but on April 22, 2010, that stream of information suddenly changed. On the chance that someone is out there, NASA approved the placement of a phonograph record called “Sounds of Earth” on each of the Voyager spacecraft. The 12-inch, copper disc on Voyager 2 contains greetings from Earth people in 60 languages, samples of music from different cultures and eras, and natural sounds of surf, wind and thunder, and birds, whales and other animals. The record also contains electronic information that an advanced technological civilization could convert into diagrams, pictures and printed words, including a message from then President Carter.

NASA says it’s a software problem with the flight data system was the cause but the academic, Hartwig Hausdorf, believes it could be the work of aliens because all the other parts of the craft are functioning fine.

The May 14th edition of the Telegraph quotes Hausdorf as saying, “It seems almost as if someone has reprogrammed or hijacked the probe–thus perhaps we do not yet know the whole truth.”
