While some scientists see incredible changes coming in the future, others despair to think that ancient prejudices could still be causing tragedies like 911 and the recent terrorist attacks on London. English Astronomer Royal Martin Rees, who has been interviewed on Dreamland, says that science has changed the world faster in the 21st century so far than it has ever been changed before, and that the biggest questions we still need to answer are what makes us human and how did we came to exist.
Jo Twist reports in BBC news that Ress also warns that advances in technology have a dark side and could trigger a global catastrophe, but says that if we’re going to enjoy the benefits of science, we have to accept the risks. He reminds us that life on Earth isn’t even halfway through the time it will have before the sun burns itself out, and that life in the far future could be as different from us as we are from bacteria.
