This may be the source of their extraordinarily accurate calendar. A new Mexican documentary titled "Revelations of the Mayans 2012 and Beyond" claims that the ancient Mayans had contact with alien visitors who left evidence behind.

The movie makers say that the film is being made with the cooperation of the Mexican government for "the good of mankind," and that Mexico’s president ordered all government bureaus to work with the filmmakers.

In the Guardian, Ben Child quotes producer Raul Julia-Levy as saying, "Mexico will release codices, artifacts and significant documents with evidence of Mayan and extraterrestrial contact, and all of their information will be corroborated by archeologists. The Mexican government is not making this statement on their own–everything we say, we’re going to back it up."

Child quotes Luis Augusto García Rosado, the Mexican minister of tourism for the Mayan area, as talking about contact "between the Mayans and extraterrestrials, supported by translations of certain codices, which the government has kept secure in underground vaults for some time." He also told about "landing pads in the jungle that are 3,000 years old."
