Despite all the predictions about a hotter, drier future (NOTE: Subscribers can still listen to this show), SOME researchers think that climate change means we’re headed for a new ice age. In fact, geologic records (such as ice cores and tree rings) show that intermittent ice ages are normal for the Earth, interrupted by the type of brief warming period that we’re in right now.
On the Helium website, Terrence Aym quotes paleoclimatologist George Kukla as saying, "Earth has experienced an ongoing cycle of ice ages dating back millions of years. Cold, glacial periods affecting the polar to mid-latitudes persist for about 100,000 years, punctuated by briefer, warmer periods called interglacials." Kukla even thinks that all ice ages START with a period of global warming.
So is Man responsible in any way for global warming? According to Kuka, "Man is responsible for a part of global warming–most of it is still natural." Aym quotes (a rather cynical) Kukla as saying, "The only thing to worry about global warming is the damage that can be done by worrying. Why are some scientists worried? Perhaps because they feel that to stop worrying may mean to stop being paid."
