It’s been discovered that the force of sunlight on an asteroid can change its orbit, which is one reason why asteroids change direction and head for Earth. What we don’t know is this: Will the increased solar activity on the sun right now have an increased effect on asteroids?

Eugenie Samuel Reich writes in New Scientist that astronomers have detected the influence of sunlight on asteroids for the first time, since it’s very subtle. However, it’s enough to coax them out of the Solar System’s asteroid belt and into an orbit that can impact Earth.

Global warming could put three of India’s biggest cities?Bombay, Calcutta and Madras?under water by 2020. There’s evidence it’s happened before: an ancient underwater city has been discovered there. It could also happen to us?if the ice caps melt, London, New York, Miami, Sydney, Shanghai and Tokyo could all end up under water.

Geoffrey Lean writes in the Independent about a German study that says the rate of climate change will soon exceed anything that’s happened “in the last million years.” If nothing changes, the West Antarctic ice sheet and the Greenland ice cap will begin to disappear, leading to sea levels rises which will submerge many coastal cities.

There is a complex process of contact taking place now in three areas: the British Midlands, the east central United States and British Columbia. It may be unfolding elsewhere as well, but these are the three areas from which extensive reports are coming and good cases being documented.

In Britain, there are no reports of abductions or close encounters. Rather, sightings elaborate and extensive enough to cause cars to stop along highways during the day are being reported. In the United States, for the most part, the situation is similar, with the exception of an event in Kentucky that I discussed extensively in the last part of this journal entry.
