A particle physicist has announced that the universe could turn to jelly. If this happens, the gel-effect will spread at the speed of light from its point of origin until the entire universe has gelled.

Dr. Benjamin Allanach has stated that the probability of this happening is less than that of winning the world’s biggest lottery twice in the same day. Dr. Allanach delivered his remarks at the British Association Festival of Science in Glascow. His remark that “the universe could suddenly condense into jelly” was greeted with consternation.

For the first time in 17 years, the hurricane season has gone 97 days without a hurricane, and scientists don?t know why. The last time the Atlantic-Caribbean season ran this long with no hurricanes was 1984, until Hurricane Diana arrived on September 10. This year there have been five tropical storms but none have developed the 74 mph winds necessary for them to be classified as hurricanes. Scientists had been predicting a major hurricane season.

A tornado in Canada cut through fields filled with genetically modified canola plants. ?The tornado actually picked up the canola plants and actually wrapped them around these trees,? says farmer Vic Martens. The seeds from that crop were blown into other canola fields up to 6 ? miles away, raising new concerns about the uncontrolled spread of genetically modified seeds.

Brian Ellis, a professor of plant biotechnology, says the problem needs to be studied. ?This is something the regulators never even thought of. It just goes to show that you can?t control something once you get it out into real nature,? he says.
