There’s all kinds of pornography, and if you like to sneak a peek at a porn site occasionally, either at home or at the office, beware: criminals are lurking there, ready to STEAL YOUR MONEY.

Statistics suggest that 12% of all websites offer some form of pornography and that 70% of men under 24 browse these sites. Researchers created their own porn sites in order to test site users’ vulnerability, and found that the people who visited the sites were incredibly naive and open to getting computer viruses, as well as being reeled in byold-fashioned sales schemes.

BBC News quotes computer security expert Gilbert Wondracek as saying, “They have almost inadvertently created a whole ecosystem that’s easy to abuse for cyber crime on a large scale. Visitors are being abused as click bots.”

The researchers analyzed almost 300,000 websites hosted on 35,000 domains to see which ones contained adware, spyware and viruses. A common practice on these sites, which are free, is to create “sticky” software that makes it hard for the user to leave the site or turn the page without having to reboot his computer, and when they click on a link, instead of going there they are passed on to another site (which pays the original site for this service). Once a man is “stuck” on a site, he is bombarded with sales pitches for basically worthless items.

And what about the women being peeked at–what do they think about THEIR OWN bodies? Most people, especially women, don’t find their own bodies attractive because our brains distort our body image. BBC News quotes researcher Matthew Longo as saying, “These findings may well be relevant to psychiatric conditions involving body image such as anorexia nervosa, as there may be a general bias towards perceiving the body to be wider than it is.”

Meanwhile, back to the internet, where thousands of men spend hours gazing at those wide women: “It’s cut-throat competition,” says Wondracek. “Everybody tries to get as much traffic as possible.”
