Get out that tea pot and those dainty porcelain cups because scientists have declared that tea is good for your health. Drinking several cups of tea a day can help prevent heart attacks, protect bone density and guard against osteoporosis and help prevent cancer as well.

Dr. Kenneth Mukamal of Harvard University has found that drinking tea may reduce the risk of death after a heart attack. He studied 1,900 American heart attack patients and found that those who drank the most tea were the least likely to die in the three or four years after their attack.

The magic ingredient may be flavonoids. Tea has lots of these antioxidants. They prevent blood clotting and that may stop the hardening of arteries. Mukamal says, “We found that tea drinkers generally had lower death rates regardless of age, gender, smoking status, obesity, hypertension, diabetes or previous heart attack.”

In China, scientists have discovered that tea keep bones stronger. Chih-Hsing Wu and Chih-Jen Chang, of the National Cheng Kung University Hospital in Taiwan, researched the effects of tea drinking on their patients and say, “The protective effect of tea on bone mineral density of the total body, lumbar spine and hip regions was clearly demonstrated.” However, other studies have shown that the caffeine in tea is bad for the bones.

It doesn?t matter whether your tea is black or green?both are good for you.
