Will your new lover cheat on you? One way to avoid this is to make sure the two of you are genetically compatible.
A new study shows that a group of genes that are involved in your immune system can predict what type of person you will be sexually attracted to?as well as how faithful this person will be! In LiveScience.com, Jeanna Bryner quotes psychologist Christine Garver-Apgar as saying, “These are some of the first findings that I know of that get at this idea of romantic chemistry and what it is exactly that makes two people just so compatible and attracted to each other.”
The genes she’s studying perform the task of sending a signal to the body’s immune system, telling it whether a cell is a native or a foreign invader that might make you allergic to having sex with them. But even if two people have compatible genes, cheating can still go on, once a month, anyway.
For this study, Garver-Apgar obtained DNA from 48 romantically involved couples, from 18 to 35 years old. These couples then completed a survey about how satisfied they were with their partnership, which was done just at the point at which the female partner was at the most fertile part of her menstrual cycle. Surprisingly, even very compatible females turned out to be most DIScontent with their male partners at the time when they were most fertile. At that time of the month, according to researcher Randy Thornhill, they were “more likely to be fantasizing about other men.”
