Amanda Gardner writes in HealthDayNews that dark chocolate and cocoa are good for the heart because they contain polyphenol compounds. Thirteen people, aged 55 to 64, who had high blood pressure, were randomly told to eat either dark chocolate bars (with 500 milligrams of polyphenols) or white chocolate, (with no polyphenols). People who ate the dark chocolate had lower blood pressure in ten days. Nutritionist Samantha Heller says, “If you want a chocolate treat once in a while, the bitterer the better and don’t feel badly about it.”
