The object in this photograph was seen hovering over the site of a Lake Michigan plane crash that killed two people. Whether or not the object caused the crash is not known. The object would appear to be either a cluster of balloons or an unknown. Unfortunately, it never made any movements that would definitely establish it as an unknown. There is no information about whether or not the pilot reported anything prior to the crash. The plane went down in 42 feet of water. The 1975 Piper Cherokee was enroute to Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

This video is MUFON’s selection for the best UFO video of 2012. It’s pretty impressive, but the images available suggest that it is just possible that it could be a group of balloons tied to a central platform to which small flashing LEDs have been affixed. Like Alejandro Rojas of Open Minds, I’ll be eager to see their final report.

Only 4% of the universe is made of known material. Stars and gas in galaxies move so fast that astronomers have speculated that the gravity from a hypothetical invisible halo of dark matter is needed to keep galaxies together. However, a solid understanding of dark matter as well as direct evidence of its existence has remained elusive.

A research team made up of astronomers from around the world believes that the interactions between dark and ordinary matter could be more important and more complex than previously thought, and even speculate that dark matter might not exist and that the anomalous motions of stars in galaxies are due to a modification of gravity on extragalactic scales.
