A pair of startlingly unique viruses twice the size of the largest known viruses have been discovered by a group of French scientists. They have a shape similar to a container, and a completely novel set of genes inside, which made their discoverers associate them with a Pandora’s Box. Most of their genes are novel, and contain code that does unknown things. There is some scientific speculation that these viruses are so unusual that they should be thought of as a new life form entirely.

The number of large meteors impacting Earth may be on the rise, but nobody’s sure. In 2005, the American Meteor Society instituted a reporting system on their website that enabled members of the public to report bright meteors, otherwise classified as fireballs. Since then the number of reports has risen steadily, but so has usage of the website and the ease of making reports on it. However, there was a significant increase in large events between 2011 and 2012, suggesting that more meteors may be impacting Earth. This would be true if the solar system is entering an area of space where there is more debris. The American Meteor Society says that this finding "warrants further study." read more

I’ve noticed that certain people have more of a relationship to the dead people in their lives–what we might call ghosts–that others. Psychic mediums are like this–perhaps because the have one foot in each world. The dead often show themselves in what might be considered ordinary ways–which mediums are good at detecting, but which most of us overlook.
