Laredo, Texas UFO researchers are finding a significant number of unexplained objects in local skies, but it’s not because of UFO reports being received from the public, but rather because they are part of a growing movement in the research community: the go out with good equipment and obtain UFO data on their own. This is perhaps the next wave in UFO research. It is getting much easier to do, as UFOs become more common and seemingly more willing to appear on demand.

This weekend, we offer two special programs. First, Whitley Strieber’s long awaited analysis of his short story Pain. Pain was written during the time that he had his 1985 close encounter experience, and reveals much of his unconscious reaction to what had happened to him. Over the thirty years since, he has learned a great deal more about the experience, and the insights that appear in this discussion are among the deepest he has ever reached.

Second, Whitley Strieber and Dr. John Mack became good friends after Dr. Mack became interested in close encounter witnesses. In November of 1999, Whitley interviewed Dr. Mack on Dreamland. It is a beautiful interview, and Whitley has added an introduction recalling Dr. Mack and their relationship.

For many years, I have been curious about my story Pain. I have seen that it contained much unconscious knowledge of the close encounter experience. It was the last piece of creative writing I did before I became conscious of what had happened to me on December 26, 1985. In fact, the experience actually happened while I was in the middle of writing the story. On the surface, it is a story about a very difficult, painful relationship, but beneath that, it is about finding freedom from the most basic of all human fears, which is the fear of death.
