Latest Out There Stories
The Out There section collects stories about strange events from all over the internet.
Videos and some other stories are graded:
A--Probably true, B--Likely true, C--Likely false, D--Probably false.

Stories are not researched by Unknowncountry.com staff before posting and video evaluations are based on experienced observation, not video analysis.

Out There Editor steps up on sopabox.

This story from Queensland in Australia is typical of about half a dozen we get in each day. It's not spectacular. There is no reason to disbelieve it. And the world continues to ignore the truth: something in haunting our skies. But why are we so passive about it? As Whitley Strieber points out in Solving the Communion Enigma, science has all the tools necessary to solve the UFO and close encounter questions. But few scientists dare to get near the subject, and there is no grant funding whatsoever. None. Given the thousands of UFO sightings every year and the millions of close encounter experiences, this is so completely irrational that it seems like some level of control is being exerted to prevent us from looking at the subject rationally.

This one is difficult to evaluate. There are kites with LED lights that could appear like this. But it emits lighted objects toward the end of the video, so this could well be a genuine unknown.

The helicopter is hovering. The object near it is not flying aerodynamically. An interesting video, for sure.

For the first three quarters of this video, this appears to be a blimp maneuvering in the sky behind the Statue of Liberty. Nothing unusual there. But then the thing speeds up, going much faster than a blimp, and emits a stream of smoke. This is very similar to a 1952 sighting described by Dr. Paul A. Hill in his book Unconventional Flying Objects. The only caveat here is that this poster has a number of UFO posts--but they're certainly not CGI effects. Rather, they're more-or-less wishful thinking, not actual UFOs. This, however, is a very different kettle of fish. This may well be a craft of unknown origin.

This is an excellent capture from video being streamed by NASA from the International Space Station. The Gather.com article says that it couldn't possibly be a satellite, but, in fact, it could be. It could also be a manmade device of some kind, perhaps classified. It could also be an alien spacecraft, of course. There is no question about it being a hoax. It is genuine video.

These stills record a type of UFO that has been seen and photographed for at least forty years. The witnesses' description of his dog's reaction is also typical of the phenomenon.

A seeming UFO was captured by numerous sources moving slowly over the Olympic venue during the opening night fireworks display. Close analysis of the video shows that the object was functioning like a lighter than air craft, not like something that doesn't need lift. Therefore your Out There editor comes down in favor of the idea that it was a blimp. No markings on it, though, I'll give you that.

These are not candle lanterns because of the absolute precision of the triangle. There have been a number of genuinely anomalous crop formations in that country this month, also.

Similar shapes have been noticed before, but they appeared to be contrails of some sort. This object is very clearly physical and suggests that this form of UFO might become more common, if past experience is any example. Of course the YouTube Hoaxer community will probably start making them as well.

This could easily be a photo of a meteor or a star, but witness testimony suggests otherwise.

A strange light in the sky, a helicopter in the area. The light disappears. Very strange.

It doesn't have to be a UFO story to qualify for the Out There section. This is not a UFO story, but you do have to wonder just what this guy is up to? Or what this guy IS?

Google Moon offers the opportunity to examine lunar photographs in detail, and researchers are finding some very unusual images. Of course, they will all be dismissed as things like dropped pixels or distortion, but frankly, there are too many of them at this point. Filmmaker Jose Escamilla is also working on a documentary about the moon that offers a narrative very different from NASA's. To see the trailer, click here.

This 'object' is probably a lens effect. Your Out There Editor stands corrected. An explanation appears on another video of precisely the same phenomenon in Port Chester, New York. Here is the explanation from the comments section of the Port Chester video:

I saw and filmed the same phenomena 2 summers ago, but being in the video montage industry, I used a video deshacker (Deshacker for VirtualDub) and analyzed the video frame by frame. It was clear then what I was seeing as a second sun was actually a reflection cause by the lens of the camera because on a few frames, I could see the_ anomaly (second sun) jump up and down compared to the sun. If this was really an object in space, this would never happen. Cheers Dan

Your Out There editor's first impression of this capture was that it was a meteor swarm. But then I looked deeper into this YouTuber's page and found another video of something somewhat similar that is definitely NOT a meteor swarm. So what has he found? This guy is worth watching. Sometimes people who show an interest in what's out there get rewarded with a pretty spectacular display. To see the other, even stranger video, click here. My best guess now is that we are looking at living creatures of some sort. Pretty amazing stuff.

And hey, speaking of pretty amazing, Whitley has published a new novel as an ebook. I got a copy the second I saw his post, and I've just started it. All I can say is THE GUY CAN WRITE. The first couple of chapters are just breathtaking. You can get it on your Kindle, Nook, etc., or from the UC store as a PDF.

This video, taken with an infrared camera, is almost certainly authentic. However, it could as easily be a classified aircraft as a UFO from another world. Its flight characteristics, however, suggest that it is not an aerodynamic object but is staying aloft by some other means.

This video may be something ordinary that is being taped out of focus, but if so, what is it? Your Out There editor is stumped.

This hat-like UFO shape has been with us since the early 1950s. There is no reason to think that this photo is faked.

This photo is not a lens effect, and as this is a multiple witness case, what is on the image was probably in the sky. But what is it? It appears to be a cloud, so is it some sort of bizarre natural phenomenon? With so many weather anomalies these days, that seems possible. But could it also be something concealing itself in a self-generated cloud? Unless this is a very elaborate hoax, which in this day and time is always possible, it's a genuine unknown.

This is just one example of dozens of similar UFO videos to appear over the past few weeks. There is a great deal of activity at present, so much that it has your Out There editor wondering just what is going on? Will there be more concrete developments? All I can say is, we shall see...

These new pictures of the Baltic Object make it seem even more unusual. The object appears to be made of stone, and yet there is a field leading up to it suggesting that it slid or was dragged to its current position. It remains a compelling archaeological mystery. The area of the Baltic it is in was dry land during the last ice age, so it could be that it dates from before glacial melt inundated the region.

San Bernadino County, California has been having extensive UFO sightings for months. Most of them have sounded like candle lantern sightings, but this report states that one or more of the objects appeared at altitude, meaning that it could not have been a candle lantern, which would have had to have been launched while lit.
Thanks to the efforts of Leslie Kean and many others, the media is beginning to accept the idea that UFOs are genuine unknowns. Beyond that, though, is a much more difficult reality: the fact that contact is under way, and it is profoundly spiritual and psychic, and flies in the face of the whole secular proposition that human beings are only physical creatures, a proposition fundamental to the beliefs of most western intellectuals. This story is an example of what happens when a person who has been in deep contact for years establishes his connection.

This is a compelling video. Of course it's always possible that it is indeed Venus, but the movements described by these professional observers strongly suggests that this is a genuine unknown.

It is possible that atmospheric conditions can make the wings of a plane seem to disappear, but a close look at this video suggests that it may be something else.

UFOs appear almost simultaneously over Europe and the US. One has to wonder if steadily increasing UFO activity worldwide will ever lead to any sort of climax?

This certainly isn't a bird or a plane, or a lens flare. So that leaves a UFO.

These lights do not appear to be an aircraft, but as this is a night shot, there is no way to be certain. Still, probably an authentic video and the odds are that this is an unknown.

Whitley Strieber has described his close-up experience of UFO motors as involving ultra high speed rotation. This video shows a magnetic device being rotated at extremely high speed. Could this be the key to UFO propulsion?
