Economy Can Only Get Worse

Are we heading for another depression, like the one the world experienced starting in 1929? The economic disturbances caused by the great flood of 1927 were one factor that led to the 1929 crash. The decimation of shipping routes in New Orleans and refineries in Houston by hurricanes Katrina and Rita could be the trigger for a new one.

Philip Thornton writes in the UK paper The Independent that the UK?s economy has had its lowest growth rate in over ten years. The US and UK are more closely tied than most people realize, and not just because of the Iraq war. Both countries are also beholden to the dictates of the World Bank, which ties together the fates of most of the economically viable countries of the world. If one of their economies seriously falters, all of them will fall. This happened in 1929, before there even was a World Bank.
