A ‘blood libel’ is an accusation that a person or group engages in human sacrifice. Why Sarah Palin has used this term to criticize the people who have been accusing her of being too vitriolic I cannot imagine. Also, though, the we Americans have always engaged in extreme political statements and violent rhetoric. During the 1864 campaign, for example, Lincoln was portrayed as an ape in many billboards. We’re wild and wooly, that’s just the fact. What we need to do is make more of an effort to identify and contain the crazies, not try to tamp down our political rhetoric. Here’s the definition of ‘blood libel:’ http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=BrD&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&defl=en&q=define:Blood+libel&sa=X&ei=NmUuTcidNYaisAPD0cC_BA&ved=0CBcQkAE So, I guess we can conclude that Sarah is a bit upset at the pasting she’s taking at the moment. My guess is that she’ll survive.

  1. boo-hoo. I find it amazing
boo-hoo. I find it amazing that even tho she speaks out so viciously against any and all who have a differing point of view of hers — she cant take some well deserved and responsible criticism. If fanatics are also criticizing her — well like attracts like. I hope this finishes her politically. She chose the metaphor. It was irresponsible and something did occur. It doesnt mean it was her fault but it highlights her total lack of responsibility in choosing what kinds of images and metaphors she wants to be associated with. This may be her defining point in history.

As for all the other belly-aching pundits out there — they can hardly find the words to say anything right now . . . but I will not be surprised if they recover. In the meantime — listening to them TRYING to defend their hate speech is — well, worth listening to them 🙂

Can you imagine where the mainstream media wld be on this if the partys were reversed and it had been a democrat with a map with crosshairs targeting republicans? What/whoever is behind this tragedy — I have the greatest satisfaction is thinking that politically and spiritually — this horrendous act has completely backfired on them.

I find it disturbing that people are willing to believe that this poor boy (assuming there’s anything left of him anymore) acted alone. Sitting there staring w/that insipid grin (one I know well) sounds like he is possessed by a demon. It is so tiresome to keep hearing the piteous cries of individuals who complain of being targeted, hounded, hearing voices, being programmed, etc. — when we look the other way — how long before one of us is the next puppet? Parents need info to help protect their children — they need to heed the warning signs. We all do. To bury our collective heads in the sand and pretend that this was a random act of a crazy man is irresponsible. Families and communities need to come together again. We need to watch over one another. If this can be an outcome of this horrible event — the Tuscon tragedy with its 6 martyrs will not have been in vain.

  2. Palin is the Paris Hilton of
Palin is the Paris Hilton of right wing politics. If the number of Americans who embrace her wasn’t so frightening, it would be funny.

  3. If only she were a Saturday
If only she were a Saturday Night Live character of a politician, instead of an actual, real-life politician… sigh.
