There are now a number of plausible end-of-the-world scenarios, enough to justify thinking seriously, and in a new way, what such an event might mean to us. It’s easy to say, oh, well, that’s it, then, we’ll just be gone.

That might not be the whole story.

Before I discuss why I think that, I’d like to run through a few of these scenarios. I’ll begin by saying that December 21, 2012 isn’t one of them. Whether or not this date has any large significance is not presently clear. There is a lot of change taking place and it might, but if there was a world-ending mechanism involved, we would almost certainly see some indications of it by now.

There are three primary scenarios that people often express concern about: changes in the sun; the collapse of earth’s magnetic field; and climate change. Should one of these factors lead to an extinction event on earth, and if one takes place, we are going to bear the brunt of it. The reason is that we are large and very numerous, and therefore dependent on a stable planetary environment. If it is changed too much, we enter into an unrecoverable decline.

For the past 10 years, the sun has been acting in ways that we don’t understand. Just recently, an enormous magnetic fissure opened up in its surface. It was a feature unlike any we have ever seen before. Add to this what has become a litany of unexpected solar change over the past few years, and the conclusion is inescapable: we don’t know what is happening to our star. Should it emit a significant enough burst of energy, it could destroy planetary electrical and electronic systems, or worse, it could sheet the planet with sterilizing gamma rays, effectively ending life here.

Similarly, our planet’s magnetosphere has been in motion for years, and its movement is getting faster each year. Every half million years or so, Earth’s magnetic pole shifts. For the most part, the shifts evolve over thousands of years, and there is no evidence that they cause mass extinctions. At some point in the future, there will be a period of time when the magnetic field of the planet will be in chaos. How long it will last is unknown, but during the time that it is in this state, it will be possible for radiation from the sun and other sources to reach closer to the surface of the earth. This will not result in an extinction event, unless it turns out that our understanding of magnetic reversals is wrong, and the change happens more quickly than we are expecting, with unknown consequences. One problem is that our crops are bred to grow quickly, which makes them vulnerable to radiation. However, despite the increasing speed with which the magnetic field is changing, even if it enters a state of chaos, our atmosphere will prevent an increase in the intensity of high energy particles reaching the surface. The poles of the magnetic field, for example, are not shielded from the sun now, and there is no deadly radiation entering there. (A footnote: there is a video on the internet at present (August, 2012), allegedly from a NASA scientist claiming that aliens have told NASA that this will happen in the summer of 2016. The video claims that, when the magnetosphere goes into chaos, the Van Allen radiation belts will come to earth and fry us all. This will not happen, and the video has been revealed to be a hoax.)

The third possibility is climate change. I don’t need to go into this in much detail, obviously, but I will say this about it: despite recent studies that have made even leading global warming skeptics into believers, two factors have not yet entered the equation. The first is that increasing use of natural gas in power generation and industrial processes has led to a dramatic decrease in CO2 emissions by the United States. The second is that reduced solar energy over the past 10 years has slowed global warming. At the same time, methane outgassing from tundra and frozen methane hydrates beneath the Arctic Ocean is in the process of causing a heat spike in the arctic. How these conflicting forces will play out is not clear.

In any case, I’m not predicting that any of these things will happen. Despite a recent dire warning from a NASA worker, Dr. Salvatore Conti that alien signals have indicated that the magnetic pole shift will happen in the summer of 2016, with calamitous results, there is no evidence that this will take place on any specific nearby date. However, it will have potentially devastating effects when it does happen.

I think that the existence of two potential engines that could drive an extinction event is worth the most serious thought. Minor extinction events are a commonplace of Earth’s geologic history. Major ones are more rare, but the human species is living in such a delicate balance than even a relatively minor change, by planetary standards, could derail our species.

So what if that happens? What if the great majority of us die, or even all of us? Again, the end of species is a commonplace of Earth’s history, and as long as we do not have major and self-sustaining colonies on other planets or in outer space, at some point this is going to happen to us.

My sense is that nature is well prepared for this. Indeed, that it is expected. Just as death is part of individual life, species extinction is part of species life. In my years of close encounter, I have come to see that the presence of our dead is so intertwined with the presence of the visitors that I have come to view them as different aspects of the same phenomenon. I suspect that this is because our visitors have already had the experience that we may well be facing right now: they have already gone extinct. They present to us an immeasurably complex and nuanced presence, ranging from those who would help us to find a path toward true objective being and final truth, to those who are still bound to the physical and want nothing more than to taste of our physical lives, using whatever means they can devise to penetrate into us and share our experiences.

In fact, every single way that they manifest among us can be explained by one part or another of the preceding sentence, and I think it give us a clue both as to why they are here and what to expect in the future from them and, more importantly, from nature.

My thought is that they probably wouldn’t be taking such an interest in us if our species was not in the process of reaching a climax. One way or another, a great number of us are, at some time in the foreseeable future, going to lose access to the physical world, due to our planet’s becoming unable to sustain our lives.

This will be a hard transition. Horrible. The struggle of a baby down the birth canal, writ large in the crying of billions of throats. This baby, newly born into a completely unexpected environment, is going to awake to ferocious and highly energetic confusion. It isn’t even going to understand how it is that it exists, and this confusion is going to be reflected across its billions of individual nodes, each of which is the whole content of a single individual, probably extending across many lifetimes and an almost unimaginable wealth of experience.

In all this confusion of racing electrons and confused alarms, some of us need to remain coherent, and sounding a call to do this, and demonstrating how it can be done is, I think, the central aim of my life. I have been carefully schooled in the existence of this other level of consciousness. I know for certain, on a personal level, that it exists. There is another life after this one, and it is vastly large and more potentiated at every level than is physical life. It is not restrictively individualized like physical bodies are, but rather holographically structured, so that, while individual parts exist as separate entities, they are also at the same time expressions of the whole entity.

It is the creation of this entity that has been the aim of earthly life from the beginning. Since the advent of mankind, it has been gaining a mind–gradually waking up, as it were. Stirring in the womb of Earth.

It could be that it is time for it to take flight, if not now, then in not so many years that we can look at it as something that might happen somewhere down the road. Rather, we need to expect it and prepare for it in a disciplined and coherent manner. This is not a matter of devising ways to continue physical existence, but rather in finding something I call soul coherence, that will enable at least some of us to remain calm and accurately self and other-aware as the species ascends out of the physical world forever.

I have a simple first suggestion: it is to begin by accepting the fact that the soul is the body. Our physical being, which seems so essential and so very real, is actually a kind of mirror image of ourselves, and, as a mirror image, is no more than a convincing illusion of solidity and reality. Coming to this understanding is at once a deeply spiritual and profoundly physical practice. It requires allowing one’s attention to come to rest in the sensations of the body, and leave aside thought, and to do this again and again and again. Over time, a coating of awareness builds up inside sensation, and the body comes to recognize not only its mirror in the physical world, but its real self. It becomes a coherent pattern of being, and the more such patterns we are able to deploy during our birth the more likely it will be that the great aim of life on Earth will be fulfilled, and we will become a coherent consciousness, ready to join ourselves to the great chorus that is intelligent life in the universe.

  1. I sincerely hope that enough
I sincerely hope that enough of us are sufficiently energized to assist with the ascension of our species. I know I was born to do something to help people, perhaps this is it.

My great concern however is for the masses who “believe” that salvation comes only from that belief. I have a couple of family members who view mediation as “devil’s work” because it is not spelled out in the bible. They seem very lost and intransitory. Many others are locked into stolid thought systems that prevent them from even conceiving what Whitley has elucidated in this journal. Will a thousand or two ascending to a higher vibrational state be able to reconstitute the species?

    Many questions; little apprehension.

Beautifully said. It reminds me that in one of Robert A Monroe’s three book trilogy on OBE’s there is a big event going on on earth. My recollection is that many species or beings were watching the event from space, they had met for this incident that had GALACTIC implications and were watching in awe. It was the birth of an “infant” and if I recall well that infant was the human race that was leaving earth. Any one remembers this better?

  11. As always, Whitley’s words
As always, Whitley’s words are resonating very deeply. Whether our souls are forced to leave this Earth or not, I believe there’s a groundswell (excuse the pun) of commitment to Earth-protecting causes – so many people in my life are engaging with and talking about the natural world. I don’t think this is a coincidence. I think it’s a case of suddenly appreciating what we know we are in serious danger of losing. And, if forced to leave this planet, we need to know we did everything we could to repair the trail of destruction from the past 150 years. If we are staying and riding out a terrible tumult, it’s time to realize that it’s not just about humans….it’s about learning to love and respect and live within the complexities and rhythms of all of Mother Earth’s creation. Because eventually we’ will be forced to move on, and if we don’t raise the vibration of this collective soul we call humanity, we won’t be welcomed in the next realm or the next physical world.

  31. Lots of religious and new age
Lots of religious and new age vibes here.
I’m not religious. I’ve seen no proof of a god. So I believe we are just another animal here on a planet around an ordinary star. Scientists estimate there are 160 billion planets in Our galaxy the Milky Way. The Milky Way is just 1 of around 100 billion galaxies in the known universe. Basically the universe is most likely full of civilizations, some can be 10 billion years more advanced than us. It’s also a very dangerous place with gamma ray sweeping around, supernova explosions, black hole sucking away and asteroids flying around. We can do this planet in Ourselves with global warming, pollution or nuclear war and it is very plausible that evolving the human spirit is the way forward to avoid that. We are the ONLY species destroying the planet. There may be a lot of things we have to learn to make it through the next 500 years or maybe forever. Earth is doomed in 4 billion years anyway when the sun balloons up and expires. With aliens around, orbs and dire wolfs, abductions, remote viewing, government coverups we have Our challenges cut out before us. Somehow we have to educate Ourselves because right now we only have this planet and each other and we don’t have the right to destroy the planet and all the fantastic wildlife that is here.

    1. Admittedly, the following
Admittedly, the following comment is out of context:

For anyone interested, I am going to outline the major possible explanations for Whitley’s experiences. At the outset, I’m going to rule out the possibility that Whitley is a fraud and that his alleged experiences with the “visitors” and the master of the key are intentionally contrived. I assume that anyone here is beyond that possible explanation. I also assume that everyone here is open minded enough to be able to entertain these possibilities and not take my comments personally.

Setting aside the possibility that Whitley has fabricated his experiences, there are three major possible explanations for Whitley’s reported encounters:

      1. The hallucination explanation: One possibility is that Whitley genuinely believes in his reported experiences but they are merely hallucinations. Perhaps Whitley has a unique imagination or brain chemistry that creates these experiences? The problem with this explanation is that Whitley has no known diagnosed mental condition that would cause such hallucinations. Additionally, some of the information Whitley obtains from his experiences appears predictive and/or provides knew information. The information Whitley gains from these experiences is also logically consistent in the sense that it supports a paradigmatic evolution beyond what Whitley was aware.
      2. The modern shaman explanation: It is said that a small percentage of people in every culture are “outside of the cultural illusion” and able to access spiritual domains inaccessible to others. In archaic cultures, these people are referred to as shamans. Perhaps Whitley is a modern day shaman? This possible explanation would not make Whitley’s experiences literally true but it would imply that Whitley is connecting with a spiritual dimension or non-ordinary realm and translating that experience in a modern way. For example, as Whitley himself speculates, 500 years ago people may have experienced the visitors as fairies whereas modern man experiences them as aliens. When downloading a spiritual/non-ordinary experience, the message is always distorted to some degree and effected by the cultural context in which it is expressed. Whitley may very well be accessing a spiritual or non-ordinary realm but we should be careful about taking his experiences literally as they are one man’s interpretation and “download.”
      3. The literally true explanation: The third possibility is that what Whitley is experiencing is literally true, meaning, that he is being contacted by a non-human intelligence (aliens), non-temporal human intelligence (humans from the future), or non-corporeal human intelligence (dead people). The hallucination explanation gives Whitley’s experiences the least objective reality, the “literally true” explanation gives his experiences the most objective reality, and the shamanistic explanation provides partial objective validity to Whitley’s experiences. “Literally true” with respect to the master of the key (TMOK) could mean a number of things such as TMOK was a human from the future, an advanced enlightened human, a spiritual being, or a Canadian from Toronto. 🙂

Anyone want to add to the list of possibilities outlined above?

  35. It is interesting to see how
It is interesting to see how science defines the electron. Science has been able to calculate a “radius” of an electron. But in reality, an electron is a point particle, which doesn’t occupy any space at all. The spin of the electron which is what scientists relate to its angular momentum, much like a top, but how can something that doesn’t even occupy space spin? The theoretical motion of electrons is called Zitterbewegung, meaning trembling motion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zitterbewegung. It is essentially speed of light oscillations of positive and negative energy states about a median.

These are some of my ideas that I have picked up on after a careful reading of The Key and from personal experience. I apologize to those who have read The Key and may take this as a rehash of what the MOTK said. In our fourth mind, we become aware of ourselves and as our soul as it is, unhindered by the brain. While we become aware of our soul and our true nature, we do not have the brain to cloud over the pure sense of the soul. We just experience it as it truly is, no words can describe this because words are merely artificial constructs that help our brains to process our objective reality. Without the brain to mediate, we become purely observers, observing simply what is rather than what one thinks it is. It is hard to really understand it, but in terms of our rational thought, it is the small difference between belief and knowing. When I have been in this state of the fourth mind, I have always sensed an awe of the objective world around me. It feels like something greater. I have come to think that what this greater thing is what I can only call God’s Mind. It is an infinite consciousness, much like our own consciousness, which we are a part of. We are essentially nothing more than presences or thoughts or something in another’s mind or consciousness. But we actually are that consciousness too. We are just individualized pieces, much like the MOTK has said. This is so overpowering yet simple. It is in the practice of meditation to become aware of our sensation and become objective in that we can see ourselves, we can become the observer and in that we can enter the consciousness of the soul and become a companion with God. We can objectively live our lives, striving for ecstasy, so when the elemental body fails, we may have enough objectiveness to have affected our electrons in such a way, that we will be conscious energy and not small beings, but radiant. We have the practice. We can work towards this goal.

In my opinion, for those who cannot see God choose to not to look. For those who “believe” God but do not “know” God are trapped in belief.

  37. Lost Star,
    I think Whitley

    Lost Star,
I think Whitley and he alone knows what his experiences really are. They are probably real to him. We all experience life in one form or another. Our experiences are ours to have and share. Something that has always intrigued me is that someone who could not see or hear the surrounding world such as Helen Keller could still learn to read, write and exist as much as anyone does in society today. How she could do this with being so limited in her ability to experience her surrounding shows the true spirit of the human consciousness.

Another thing is that while these experiences Whitley describes may seem paranormal, science really does tell us some bizarre things that would seem outlandish or totally impossible actually exist and do occur. For example, my link above. We take electricity for granted. We use it to even communicate over the internet, but what are electrons, really? Also, things we take for granted such as distance and time actually are not so rigid as we tend to think they are. And even solid objects such as yourself are actually mostly empty space. But even our mastery of physics and mathematics(Stephen Hawking thought we’d have a GUT theory by now) cannot even exactly solve a simple interaction between three bodies. There are no closed forms, only iterative or numerical solutions can be used.

If we were able to meet an advanced species in this universe or from another universe, they may be able to do things so advanced we could not even begin to comprehend them.

Do you know how many photons per sqaure centimeter(about the size of the tip of your pinky) there are in a room with the lights on? What about in a darkened room? They both contain about 1 billion photons. And we don’t even understand gravity.

What we define as reality could be so different to an advanced species that they wouldn’t make a bit of sense to us. Take this into consideration because many people here at this website are potentially experiencing things like Whitley does or even more bizarre.

  39. What a wonderful piece of
What a wonderful piece of writing!
The one thought that resounded while reading this was that contrary to popular, physical belief, we and everything that is individually identified by our perception of being a Self, somehow, outside the Universe, is an illusion as much as the notion of the electron being a particle is illusion (as mentioned in the post by Quantum Johnny). I must constantly remind myself that whatever the appearance, person, place, thing, situation, theory, philosophy, religion, etc. etc… is, in reality, only the Infinite, Impersonal Universe expressing Itself as All That Is. Infinite Creative Potential at work as Itself.
(I wish that I could write as powerfully as you do, Whitley).

A lesson in my life is to have compassion, forgiveness and focus rather than anger and resentment. For example, rather than getting mad at hoaxers for the distraction and confusion, I feel for them for the issues they face that brought them to act as they do, while I attempt to remain focused on what is real and important for my development. A primary challenge is to develop sufficiently so as to avoid certain extinction scenarios, self destruction being one.

It is a wonderful story as it stands. I sense there is a lot more there than I have been able to pick up this far and therefore warrants reading over. Whitley has indeed embedded secrets in the story.
I personally have little hope for the planet unless a very small minority of us can actually change things. I am retiring in a couple of years and I have started studying and watching the events occurring in Europe, Los Indignados, OWS, the Depression and related topics. I find my solace in the meditations and knowing there are at least a few of us around.
Whitley, thank you for waking me up and for the gifts you have shared!!!
I recorded and am listening to “The Imbroglio at the End of Coast” and I just can’t believe there are morons out there at this late date. But then again, look how many people seriously believe in Romney, unbelievable!
I will be working towards more “Joy” which is also “Power” in my life and in my soul.
I hope more of us will…

Very well put Whitley…lots of coherence with my intuitions.
Every day the thoughtful ones become more enlightened and the souls journey continues. Ultimately the planet we are on will no longer be able to tolerate our mortal coils. Almost all will be forced to leave our physical bodies though I doubt many will make it out of our physical bodies before they die. The main point of this transition…this period of time is to reset and let mother earth heal. Our souls will continue on…some will drift…some will follow their intended paths….but ultimately the journey will continue for most of us. Without supernatural intervention we will not be able to prevent overpopulation and the poisoning of the planet. The most we can do is realize that we are more than flesh and stick together even after death. Avoid the watchers and those that would steal our souls and help one another through bardos. This is what enlightenment truly means to me… the recognition that we are immortal souls,…the fact that we remain connected (soul coherence) after physical death…and that we recognize that so that our journey after leaving the physical plane will be as positive as possible…as long as we abide by the golden rule. I do not think the human race will be wiped out…we have made it through ice ages. The few remaining will live as best they can and eventually rebuild a society. Perhaps they will avoid the dark ages and be able to retain some of our knowledge. Perhaps Quetzecoatl will help them out. Who knows. Some of our souls will return to earth over time and others will continue the journey and some will be obliterated or absorbed into the cosmic whole.
Excellent Excellent post Whitley. It is the only thing that really makes sense to me.
I continue to hope for a savior to return and fix what is wrong on earth … but at the same time I really feel that the way to fix most of this mess is to start over with more wisdom and less selfishness.

  53. Whitley, please, I implore
Whitley, please, I implore you. You might want to read a bit more about solar physics before you make provocative statements about the sun that are exaggerated. In this, and in articles on the site, you are claiming that the sun has been doing very unusual and mysterious things recently. This leads the reader to think something brand new is afoot, that is stumping scientists, that might be a precursor to something important. That’s just not true.

    Example:

“Just recently, an enormous magnetic fissure opened up in its surface. It was a feature unlike any we have ever seen before.”

In fact, we’ve seen this countless times. It’s called a coronal hole, and while not an everyday occurrence, it’s common. Solar physicists have been observing them since the very first day they could, many decades ago. The current coronal hole is large, but well within the normal range. It IS true that recent, vastly more sophisticated imaging satellites have been installed in space, such as the new SDO, allowing us to see more detail in these things than ever before, but your statements here and elsewhere on your site regarding the sun are misleading.

Besides this though, your brilliant. Keep up the good work.

  55. I am not as interested in
I am not as interested in what happens after the end of the world because once we are at that stage, I don’t think there’s much we can do about it, for by then, I think, our paths have been set. We either are among the physical survivors who will have to find their own way of living (and hopefully not repeat our worst mistakes), or we die into a wider existence where we other than realise ourselves as individual points of consciousness that are, and ALWAYS WERE part of one great consciousness, or, if we have not strengthened our energy bodies through attentiveness, mindfulness or however we may call it, we reabsorb into the ONE and lose our individual identity. I think the visitor in the Key spoke truly, as did others who have spoken through time to us, telling us that how we choose to live, how aware we choose to become will determine our future. And that, I think, is the real pearl in your entry, Whitley, this reminder that it is what we do now that matters, that what we do in the body counts, and that it is all about being mindful: letting the “attention to come to rest in the sensations of the body, and leave aside thought, and to do this again and again and again.”

Yes, I do dread our final days, not for myself but for those I love, and yes, I do think they will come, not necessarily obliterating humanity, but giving it a hard lesson in accountability. There are most definitely unusual things happening in the cosmos, and there may be things happening right now to the earth beneath our feet that can also lead to our doom. Yes, I certainly agree with the poster who stressed the importance of our attitude to Mother Earth. Surely we will be held accountable for that. But I will not worry about the future, except to understand that I (we all) helped create it…and to believe that I (and all of us) still have daily opportunities to change it, perhaps not avoid the disasters, but to help ourselves and others through them.

What we do now, today, counts. Over the past few years, I have become deeply committed to becoming more aware, more mindful, kinder, more compassionate and also more honest. I have also used every opportunity I can to encourage others to do the same, however they choose to go about it, for I believe that it is the state of our souls that determines all. And I have encountered many people who are on this conscious, intentional soul journey…people of all faiths, of no faith, from a scientific, or religious, or environmental perspective, alone or in groups. Meeting all these people, many of them through sites like this, keeps me optimistic. There is a huge groundswell of humanity that is, I believe, taking responsibility for its future by living ethically, responsibly and mindfully in the present. They are my hope. Thank you for your own persistence, Whitley, for inspiring others to be true to themselves. Thank you all for caring enough about humanity, as well as yourselves, to think and talk about what matters. We are all in it together.
