Unknowncountry.com was hacked this morning. The site was restored within half an hour. The hack did not involve any viruses, etc., but rather a manual entry into the site’s back end and a small, almost unnoticeable change in a string of code. Our webmaster, James Beeson, managed to fix it even though he was for the most part locked out of the site by an associated exploit.

No personal information was compromised. Because Unknowncountry is a target for hackers, we do not keep your credit card information on the site. That is kept with our merchant bank on a PCI-compliant secure server. In our 20+ years of operation, we have never lost anybody’s credit card data or personal information.

In other words, when you come here, there is nothing watching your actions in order to push ads to your computer, or for any other reason.

From them I have learned two things: first, we have wonderful bodies that are capable of growing glorious souls; second, we are in danger of extinction due to environmental decline.

The attack on Unknowncountry.com was not an attempt to steal user data. It is being run by a bank which is attempting to create thousands of fake subscriptions which it can then cancel and charge back, assessing us a fee for the chargeback. Such attacks can be devastating, but we have strong security features, and all of the fake subscriptions are all being automatically declined. ALL USER DATA IS SECURE. The attack was run from the Russian Federation, from URL 94.232.16.183.To learn more about this URL, click here.
