In response to the critical decline in the numbers of African and Asian elephants due to habitat loss and poaching, a geneticist is proposing the creation of a hybrid species that is a cross between one of the existing elephant species and a long-extinct wooly mammoth, to allow them to inhabit a broader range of habitats. Additionally, the researcher is proposing that these new creatures be given further genetic tweaks to offer them other traits, such as smaller tusks to make them less attractive to ivory poachers.

New evidence that the Saudi Arabian government had supported the 9/11 hijackings has been revealed in a lawsuit being brought against the Saudi government, including allegations that they financed a "dry run" rehearsal for a future hijacking that was carried out by two undercover operatives in November of 1999. The filing illustrates "a pattern of both financial and operational support" by Saudi sources, and if the allegations are true, would mean indicate a deeper conspiracy involving Saudi officials.

The Obama administration is expected to release a 28-page set of classified documents that reportedly discusses the potential support role to some of the 9/11 hijackers played by Saudi officials, in preparation for the 9/11 attacks. Release of the documents had previously faced opposition by both the Bush and Obama administrations, on national security grounds.
