Newswise – ?But climbing that mountain can be a problem. Researchers have learned that mountain dwellers live longer than people in lowland areas. But beware: Every year, about 1,000 tourists climb Mount McKinley, but many of them have to scurry back down again due to diarrhea, and doctors can’t figure out what’s causing this.

The fact that people living in high elevations live longer is based on a 15-year study of the cardiovascular health and death rates of over a thousand inhabitants of three villages in Greece over a period. While Greeks do not have especially good health habits by our standards–many of them both drink and smoke–Greece has one of the lowest rates of heart disease in the world.
