Dramatic booming noises have been heard in at least twoAmerican cities in recent weeks, in San Diego on April 4 and Buffalo on April 12. Unusual cloud formations were photographed in San Diego in 2004. The clouds appeared very suddenly over the Miramar MarineAir Station, and did not seem to observers to function liket hunderheads. "Nothing seemed natural about this cloud,"reports photographer David Hurst. "It hovered above theground and wasn’t anvil-shaped. There was nothing wispy around the edges. Although it became mushroom-shaped, the head seemed more on the thin side than billowy." The booms that rocked San Diego and Buffalo did not appear to be sonic booms, and some residents in San Diego assumed that the sounds were earthquake related.read more

About a year ago, we reported on mysterious booms in North Carolina. Now they’re back.

In early January, a huge boom actually shook houses and rattled windows along the Carolina coast. Local TV channel WECT and sound technician Alex Markowski, who teaches at the University of North Carolina recorded the boom on tape. Markowski picked up the low frequency sounds on his special recording equipment.

Mysterious booms have been reported before inCalifornia,and now a serious of loud booming noises is shaking housesin Indiana.

In Fort Wayne, Justin Brugger says, “It’s a quick, solid,boom-type noise. One lady described it as a tremor.” Itfirst started happening about a month ago. He says, “Ithought it might be construction?but that doesn’t appear tobe it.”

Brugger plans to plot boom locations on a map from calls hereceives from residents who?ve heard them, in order to findout where they’re coming from. So far, they seem to beoccurring at random times on a long, narrow stretch of land.

Denise Porter-Ross of the mayor’s office says, “It’s just alittle disturbing. You’re hearing these noises, but you goout to investigate and nothing’s there.”read more
