More secret memos! This time, they’re about the REAL reason we invaded Iraq. We know it wasn’t WMD (weapons of mass destruction), because Saddam didn’t have any. Instead it was, as Jim Marrs said years ago, all about oil.
In the April 19th edition of the Independent, Paul Bignell reveals that right before the UK joined the US as part of the "coalition," Shell Oil denied reports that it had held talks with then Prime Minister Tony Blair about Iraqi oil, saying they were "highly inaccurate." BP also denied that it had any "strategic interest" in Iraq, while Tony Blair described "the oil conspiracy theory" as "the most absurd." (NOTE: Subscribers can still listen to the BP story). But newly released government documents show that plans to exploit Iraq’s oil reserves were discussed by government ministers and the world’s largest oil companies (including these three) the year before the UK joined the US in invading Iraq.
Five months before the March 2003 invasion, the UK Trade Minister told BP that the British government believed that British energy firms companies should get a share of Iraq’s enormous oil and gas reserves as a reward for Tony Blair’s military commitment. The phrase "a share of" implies that the US had ALREADY made a deal with these (and probably US) oil companies to invade Iraq. The REALLY sad thing about all this is, that despite all the killing and wounding of US troops, Iraq has not yet pumped a single drop of oil.
