We couldn’t figure out how the Mind Reader works, so a more mathematically adept reader from Canada did it for us: A double-digit number minus the sum of its digits is ALWAYS a multiple of 9. So all the Mind Reader has to do is to assign a unique symbol to all multiples of 9 under 90, and change that symbol for a new one every time you click your mouse button.

Another reader says, “Here’s a comment from an even more adept Canadian reader regarding the Flash Mind Reader. There is no complicated mathematical formulas being applied here. The program is banking on the fact that the user will move the mouse pointer from the chosen number directly to the crystal ball. The program notes which number/symbol you have last held your pointer over and then displays that. Try doing it without moving your pointer and I bet it gets it wrong.”
