In a top secret phone call in 2003, George W. Bush told French President Jacques Chirac that Iraq must be invaded to thwart “Gog and Magog.” Some people interpret Ezekiel 38-39 in the Bible as a prediction that the Middle East willruthlessly slaughter Israel. This extraordinary claim is NOT being made by a left wing anarchist, it is being made by James A. Haught, editor of the Charleston Gazette newspaper in West Virginia.
In 2007, Swiss theologian Thomas Romer wrote an article about this in a Lausanne University publication. The French media picked up the story, but the Gazette was the only paper that reported it in the US. Chirac confirmed the story in an interview for a book released in France.
In Ezekiel 38, the prophet is told: “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog” and says to him to “I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army, your horses, your horsemen fully armed” and advises him to bring “the many nations with you” (the coalition?) Ezekiel is told to “say to Gog: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: In that day, when my people Israel are living in safety, will you not take notice of it?You will come from your place in the far north, you and many nations with you, all of them riding on horses, a great horde, a mighty army.” These verses have been interpreted as predicting that Israel needs to be protected from invading hoardes from the Middle East by attacking them first.
And it turns out that Osama bin Laden may have been working for the US government up until Sept. 11, 2001. One blogger claims that “the US outsourced terror operations to al Qaeda and the Taliban for many years, promoting the Islamization of Central Asia in an attempt to personally profit off military sales as well as oil and gas concessions.”
