Major scientists have long charged that the Bush administration pushes pseudo-science, based on belief and denial, that caters to politics and big business. Now Rep. Henry Waxman (D-California) has revealed that every time his committee has tried to get documents about government policy on climate change from the White House, they have been refused. Climatologists say they have been told not to even MENTION the words “climate change” or “global warming.”

In the Independent, Andrew Buncombe quotes Waxman as saying that the Bush administration is trying “to mislead the public by injecting doubt into the science of global warming.” Other groups say that almost half of the climate scientists they contacted said they had been pressured by the current administration to eliminate the words “climate change” or “global warming” from their papers.

The Waxman committee heard testimony from NASA’s Drew Shindell, who said that in 2004, he was asked to change the title of one of his papers to remove the offending phrases. 40% of the federal scientists questioned said that changes were made to their work?without their permission?which changed their conclusions.
