Alberto has survived strong wind shear and remained anorganized storm, with winds being clocked at 85MPH over thepast few hours. The old eye collapsed in the earlyafternoon, and a new one formed. Thechief danger from this storm will be storm surge, becausethe gulfis shallow and drops off slowly in the area of Florida’swest coast that’s being affected. Seas of 20 feet and asurge of 10 feet ispossible along the coast, and wind may damage power linesand light construction. The Florida governor issued amandatory evacuation order for parts of Dixie, Levy, Taylor,Citrus, Franklin and Wakulla counties, which affected 21,000residents.
