Them is the first book ever to examine the intent of the presence known as "aliens" or "visitors" from the perspective of what both civilian and military close encounter witnesses report happening to them.

Leslie Kean, author of UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go on the Record calls Them "groundbreaking in the truest sense of that word."

Mitch Horowitz says in his preface that it's "among the most important interpretations of visitor phenomena since Jacques Valle's Passport to Magonia appeared in 1969."

Jacques Vallee, in the foreword, states that "This book cites fact after fact to build the case for in-depth realignment of public policy with public need."

In part one of the book, Whitley Strieber analyzes the experiences of eleven close encounter witnesses and from that derives the first in-depth picture of what the extremely strange and complex experience known as "contact" may mean, and what our visitors' intentions may be.

In part two, he turns to the military experience, showing how the visitors themselves placed governments in the position of having to keep their presence and actions secret, and what the effects of conflict with them has had on public policy as well as the lives of military personnel who have confronted them. Strieber also discusses why conflict situations occurred in the past and why this may be continuing. He then explores the enormous difficulty of communication between species with differently structured brains, and how these issues can be recognized and addressed.

There has never been a book written like Them. It is as much a first as Mr. Strieber's groundbreaking volume about his own close encounter, Communion. While it does not deal with his own experiences, in it he takes advantage of over three decades of study and research to create a vision of contact that may prove foundational to useful understanding of what is now a confused, sometimes violent, and fraught relationship.

Dr. John Alexander says, "This is an important next chapter in that unending adventure that transcends time and space."

Dr. Hal Puthoff comments, "Whitley has taken a deep dive into the UAP mystery not heretofore taken in any depth. That is, just what does it mean to potentially interact with a species so foreign to our understanding of reality as to be well nigh incomprehensible. Questions are raised and addressed which are themselves so provocative that the fact that we recognize that we have no answers is itself exceedingly valuable. I highly recommend immersion in such a challenge.

Excerpt 1: The Visitors are in Control: "A huge undertaking is going on here, and to me it is fantastic that, on so many levels, it is being methodically denied and ignored. But before we lay blame for this on any part of the human side of the relationship, I will shortly demonstrate that, from the beginning, it has been our visitors who have orchestrated the secrecy. They brilliantly ensured that governments would drop a cloak over their presence. And while they are certainly very clever, their motives for doing this, and therefore the policies and actions they have taken, can most assuredly be understood."

Excerpt 2: Our Minds have to Face the Truth: "Right now, we, also, are a house divided against itself when it comes to our visitors, with our best minds still in a state of almost total denial and the community of experiencers forced to keep a low profile if they value their places in society and the economy, and sometimes even in their own homes. Our governmental leadership is caught in the bear trap of secrecy sprung on it by the visitors, and our intellectuals—frightened to their core to face the fact that they are not the most knowledgeable species on planet Earth—willingly embrace official denial as truth."

Excerpt 3: Our Government is Being Had: "As we saw in part 1, there is danger. But the public is hardly being protected by being kept ignorant of it. All this does is enforce passivity—that is to say, official denial causes public vulnerability, and this is so obviously true that it raises the question I referred to earlier: Who is actually responsible for the secrecy? Since it imperils the public, the policy must originate with the visitors. The primary effect of official denial, ridicule, and silence regarding the truth is to make it easier for the visitors to approach members of the public at will. Therefore, it is not our policy but theirs. By protecting its secrets, the official world is exposing the public to harm. It is not acting in support of our policy, which would be to protect the public, but in support of the visitors’ policies, which are to exploit the public, albeit in ways we don’t fully understand. So apparently without realizing it, our government is working for the visitors. But is it exploitation or support? That crucial question must be answered."

“THEM” is a fascinating and detailed conversation and analysis about what a relationship with the “Others” (THEM) may mean… or not mean. Whitley explores what many experiencers view as a landscape of dreams and illusion where paths to understanding are either blocked or clouded by a language of symbols, absurd images and odd admonitions. Whitley delves deeply into whether these mental images and conversations exist in our restricted reality or perhaps in a larger, more open psychic field of which we are barely aware. Part shaman, part shamus, Whitley leads us through what is the stuff of nightmares for some and for many others I reckon, the beginning of the hero’s journey. And very few explain it all better than Whitley. Jim Semivan, co-founder To the Stars Academy, Intelligence Consultant, Retired CIA Officer

Whitley Strieber has produced a searing, masterful account of the high strangeness of the phenomenon with which humans are, and have been, interacting globally. In the second part of this fascinating book, Whitley has also taken the governments in the west to task for the combination of confusion and deception that has characterized their multiyear reaction to something that consistently lies outside their ability to control. THEM should be read as both a wakeup call and an educational tool by members of Congress, their staffers and the intelligence community. Colm A. Whitley is like the Kit Carson of literary figures, blazing a trail to dark places the rest of us have never seen and may never understand. Millions of readers know him for his brilliant prose and deep examination of seemingly unknowable mysteries. But for me, his most admirable trait is his courage. He has unabashedly shared his innermost thoughts and secrets, including accounts of deeply personal and intimate moments, jaw-dropping encounters so horrific they would leave most of us blubbering in pools of our own tears, and glimpses of a vastly more wondrous reality populated by intelligences far greater than we can imagine. His new book cuts yet another path through uncharted territory.

THEM is the most comprehensive journey yet into the human interface with what appears to be external agents, or what Strieber calls “the visitors,” or non-human intelligence. The visitors use the same language as they always have, such as making the human being “new,” yet modern contexts make these pronouncements seem very different from old interpretations. As always, Strieber’s work leads the way and it is best that we listen, as the stakes have never been higher.

Leslie Kean wrote:

Them is groundbreaking in the truest sense of that word. By looking through the eyes of witnesses at the mystery they face following life-changing encounters with "the visitors", Whitley Strieber shines a startlingly bright light into a dark and unexplainable corner of human experience. This is an unforgettable reading experience. It adds valuable analysis and deeper meaning to the study of UAP. John Alexander wrote:

From time immemorial, literally millennia, there have been reports of interactions between humans and sentient non-humans. For decades, Whitley has chronicled his encounters and intimate involvement with various entities now known as “visitors.” This is an important next chapter in that unending adventure that transcends time and space. As Jacques Vallee states in the foreword, “This is real.” Indecipherable information is observed, and complexity permeates everything. Repeatedly it points to the fundamental nature of consciousness. What is intended here is the Rosetta Stone that facilitates our understanding of the messages so prolifically presented. 1. Just like everyone else I am chomping at the bit to read this new release. I shall take it to work with me and enjoy Mr Strieber’s insights as I go about my business around the UK.

Thank you for releasing this. I’ve found myself, of late, malnourished for small details that so often seem to be missed in this area. I frequently listen to ‘Stories from a Life’ in the subscriber area and this new release will keep me both topped up on information connection and inspiration.

    Bless you all.

    Peace.
