On November 29th, officials involved with the New Safe Confinement (NSC) project gathered near the site of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, to celebrate the installation of the massive NSC structure over top of the plant’s aging containment building. The NSC building, meant to isolate the entire power plant from the surrounding environment for the next century, required a major feat of engineering to bring into being.

However, aside from its non-organic use by certain sea sponges and microorganisms, very little silicon is used by Earth’s biology, despite making heavy use of other common elements, such as carbon, hydrogen, iron, magnesium and oxygen. This has presented a long-standing puzzle for scientists: why would nature ignore such an otherwise useful substance?

This object and light form appeared above the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles on November 29. The witness reported to MUFON that he had taken the pictures without noticing the object, only the light form.

There was also a less clear event in Northridge, CA on the same night, and we have unconfirmed reports of other events in the Los Angeles area as well.

The Hollywood Hills sighting is graded A.

Sea ice levels in the Arctic and Antarctic are growing at a record-slow pace this season, according to multiple sources. While this year’s summer low for the northern hemisphere wasn’t as bad as the current record, set in 2012, the autumn rebound is falling well short of both the fall of 2012’s growth rate and the 37-year average. The Antarctic is following suit, with the summer melt shrinking the ice there at a record speeds.
