An increasing number of people die from unintentional home injury, in large part due to accidental drug overdose.

Older adults and infants have the highest rates of death from unintentional home injury. More than 30,000 such deaths occurred between 2000 and 2008.

Researcher Carol W. Runyan says, "Falls continue to be the major source of fatal home injury in older adults and suffocation the leading cause for infants. The increases in poisoning, largely due to prescription pain medication, have been most dramatic over the past decade, signaling a need to rethink how pain medications are prescribed and used.

Peering deep into the vast stellar halo that envelops our Milky Way galaxy, astronomers using NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope have uncovered tantalizing evidence for the possible existence of a shell of stars that are a relic of cannibalism by our Milky Way.

Hubble was used to precisely measure, for the first time ever, the sideways motions of a small sample of stars located far from the galaxy’s center. Their unusual lateral motion is circumstantial evidence that the stars may be the remnants of a shredded galaxy that was gravitationally ripped apart by the Milky Way billions of years ago. These stars support the idea that the Milky Way grew, in part, through the accretion of smaller galaxies. read more

The continent fragment (NOTE: Subscribers can still listen to this show) known as Mauritia detached about 60 million years ago while Madagascar and India drifted apart, and had been hidden under huge masses of lava.
