The strange object pictured here was seen ascending over a bird sanctuary in England at 5:25 PM local time Wednesday. The object has an appearance uncannily similar to a ghost rocket that was photographed over Newfoundland on January 25, 2010. Despite an exhaustive investigation by Canadian authorities, the mystery of the rocket was never solved. Our best guess: this one won’t be, either. The photos are genuine. Residents in the Cuban town of Rodas have reported a meteor strike that made an enormous noise as it hit. It is possible there is a debris field in Earth’s gravity well, possibly following the asteroid that just passed the planet. If so, more strikes are possible, and there is no way to detect them prior to entry into the atmosphere, or to stop them.

As Asteroid 2012 DA14 approached Earth, a significant meteor strike took place in central Russia. Most experts do not believe that the two events were related, and NASA has confirmed that the asteroid has not broken up. However, smaller debris is sometimes present near asteroids, and is not generally detectable, so it is possible that such debris comprised the meteor.

I am just now getting over what I call "The Grunge." It’s not the flu, it’s something else–a hacking cough that keeps your spouse (and the neighbors) up all night.

It’s going around like wildfire out here (in Los Angeles, we take the word "wildfire" seriously: we have the wildfire season in the fall when the Santa Anas blow, followed by the mud season in the winter, when heavy rain causes the dry land to give way and multi-million dollar homes with (formerly) scenic views slide down the hills onto the highways.

I mainline cough drops whenever I attend a concert, movie or meeting, I keep talking to other people who’ve had this and it’s like nothing any of us have ever experienced before. It lingers on and on.
