NASA Scientists have been gagged in the US in the past–now Canadian scientists are complaining that their vital research on health and environment issues is being suppressed.

On BBC News, Pallab Ghosh quotes university scientist Thomas Pedersen as saying, "The Prime Minister (Stephen Harper) is keen to keep control of the message, I think to ensure that the government won’t be embarrassed by scientific findings of its scientists that run counter to sound environmental stewardship. I suspect the federal government would prefer that its scientists don’t discuss research that points out just how serious the climate change challenge is."

We already know we should avoid pork products from China, but home-grown pork from the grocery store may be dangerous in ANOTHER way–it may be contaminated with superbugs.

Retail pork products in the US have a higher prevalence of methicillin-resistant bacteria (MRSA) than previously identified. MRSA can occur in the environment and in raw meat products, and is estimated to cause around 185,000 cases of food poisoning each year. The bacteria can also cause serious, life-threatening infections of the bloodstream, skin, lungs and other organs. MRSA is resistant to a number of antibiotics.

When your Out There editor took a look at this video, I assumed ‘hoax.’ But then I noticed that none of the usual easily identified signs of an amateur CGI job were present, so I was intrigued enough to send it to one of our video experts, who was intrigued. My conclusion: I still think it’s probably CGI, but it is very well done. Our special effects expert is not so sure. This is his reaction:
