In the zeal to eliminate dangerous bacteria, it is possible that we are also permanently killing off beneficial bacteria as well. We’re all worried about superbugs caused by the antibiotics in meat, and we’re taking more antibiotics than ever. By the time a child in the US or other developed countries reaches the age of 18, he or she has already had 10 to 20 doses of antibiotics. These are in addition to the antibiotics that may be given to women while they are pregnant, and which may affect the normal bacteria that mothers transmit to their children.

At 2:14 a dark round object moves from left to right across this video of a dramatic fireworks display in Taiwan. It is present in all of the videos of the event that we’ve been sent. The object could be a balloon, but its trajectory suggests controlled movement, so it qualifies as an unknown.

The Japanese (Japanese men are reported to drink quite heavily) say they have the cure for a hangover: Blowfish! Blowfish are a Japanese delicacy that can be dangerous–even deadly–if not prepared correctly.

But Blowfish essence has now been condensed into a morning after pill. In Manhattan, it can be delivered directly to your home or office. In the December 28th edition of the New York Times, Stephanie Rosenbloom quotes the pill’s inventor, Brenna Haysom, as saying, "We’ve gotten calls making sure it’s going to be in a discreet envelope so bosses wouldn’t see it." She recommends the pill for weekdays when "you need to be in work in 45 minutes and you want to die."
