Budd Hopkins died on August 21 after a years-long struggle with cancer. He will be little remarked outside of the small community of witnesses and researchers who care about the great enigma that is the hidden center of the human experience, but the work he did in this world and on behalf of mankind was of incalculable importance and I hope one day that his achievement will be honored in the manner it deserves.

A major criminal (NOTE: subscribers can still listen to this show) has been hunted by the FBI for 40 years. He is "D.B. Cooper," who, in November of 1971, boarded a plane in Portland that was headed for Seattle. He hijacked the flight and forced the plane to land, demanding a parachute and $200,000 in cash as ransom for the passengers. Once he received his requests and the plane was in the air again, he strapped the cash to his waist, opened the plane’s rear door and used the parachute to dive into the remote forest of the Pacific Northwest. He was never seen again.

As "fracking," which is the term for drilling for natural gas from the ground, becomes more popular (as oil prices rise), we may see bare landscapes in this country. This process uses LOTS of water, which is becomes contaminated before it is disposed of. The vegetation in part of a national forest in Virginia quickly died after being sprayed with chemical-laced wastewater recovered from fracking. Two years after the water was sprayed on them, over half of the trees were dead.
