Analog cellphone users are more than 3 times more likely to develop a potentially deadly form of brain tumor, according to Swedish scientists. The study of more than 1,600 brain tumor patients, ages 20 to 80, was conducted by Swedish oncology professor Lennart Hardell. He found that the likelihood of developing the tumors increased with the number of years of phone use.

The treasures of the ancient sunken city of Herakleion off the coast of Egypt have been revealed to the public for the first time. Herakleion was Egypt?s main port in the time of the pharaohs, but until its rediscovery last year, it was known only through Greek legends and a few ancient history books. Researchers believe the ancient city was sent to the bottom of the Mediterranean after than earthquake rocked the region more than 1,000 years ago.

Archeologists found a city almost untouched by time, full of colossal statues, hieroglyphic tablets and an extraordinary store of gold coins and jewelry. ?History is materializing in our hands,? says Egypt?s Culture Minister Farouk Hosni. As many as 20,000 pieces are still on the sea floor.

The Northwest has discovered damage from an earthquake that happened over 3 months ago, on February 28?as well as one that occurred 12,000 years ago.

The recent 6.8 magnitude quake in Washington state was strong enough to crack the Capitol dome near Olympia. The entire city of Seattle slid about 5 millimeters northeast and Olympia dropped a quarter of an inch. But no homes or businesses were leveled, so area residents thought they had missed the worst effects.

The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights says that the Justice Department should investigate the possibility that minorities were intentionally denied the right to vote in last year?s elections in Florida. Chairwoman Mary Frances Berry plans to request a meeting with Attorney General John Ashcroft to recommend that he look into problems outlined in a commission report.

The report says that thousands for Floridians were deprived of the chance to vote by outdated equipment, improper purging of voter rolls, language barriers and inadequate access to voting booths. Black voters were especially disenfranchised.
