5 Ways to Leave Your Body

Scientifically, we are much closer to teleportation that you can imagine. This week, William Henry interviews writer Sherry Baker about her new article in the June issue of Discover Magazine, and you are going to be absolutely amazed at what we are finding out about what seem to be completely impossible, even magical, things such as instantaneous movement.

Our world is changing fast--much faster than we think. Don't miss the boat. Sherry Baker has her hands on the tiller, and she's going to take us up the river into a future of things like teleportation, body swapping and out-of-body movement.

Thank you so much William and Sherry, what an eye opener. I want to make a few comments. Omni Magazine was WONDERFUL and I have only one issue that I guard with my life. It is the November 1980 issue that at the time cost $2.00. The photo on the cover is one of the reasons I have NOT been able to part with it. The artist that created this cover is German artist Fred-Jurgen Rogner..... Some of what Sherry is describing in this interview sounds much like the Holodeck from Star Trek; who and what are in the labs of today creating our future?

Thank YOU Carollee! I miss OMNI so much!! Some of the OMNI writers are still around -- Pamela Weintraub, who was the editor I worked with mostly when I wrote for OMNI is now at Discover! Dick Teresi has a terrific new book out -The Undead: Organ Harvesting, the Ice-Water Test, Beating Heart Cadavers,How Medicine Is Blurring the Line Between Life and Death.Long time OMNI writer Kathleen Stein died tragically last autumn from a fall during a hike. Yes, the art is OMNI was fabulous! LOVED seeing these covers! Thanks so much for posting and for listening to my interview with William. I really enjoyed it.

I loved OMNI too! I got an OMNI T-shirt at a SF convention in Seattle back in the 80s that I wore to the point it was threadbare -- that is, it went from being a Beefy-T to something you could actually see through!

I haven't seen that shirt in a few years, so I suspect my ex-girlfriend has carefully hidden it away to keep me from embarrassing her!

Was I supposed to be able access the complete article from Discover? I couldn't. I don't think it's fair to provide links if we cannot get the material without yet another subscription. Disappointing.

To ToscaZ: Discover only puts up part of features when they are just out in the magazine. I'm sure you can understand that's because they are running a business -- people can buy the print issue or become subscribers to read it all when it first comes out. However, over the next few months it should be online in its entirety. For example, here is another feature I wrote which tangentially relates to the "out of body" one -- about the creation of real cyborgs using brain/computer interfaces -- which is up in its entirety now in the archives . Hope this helps. http://discovermagazine.com/2008/oct/26-rise-of-the-cyborgs/

Discover is just $15 for a year Zinio subscription, and you can even print from it. Makes a great gift also.
