There is little reason to disbelieve this photo. The sighting is under investigation by MUFON, and the cylinder has a classic appearance.

I saw something very similar to this, and also very low in the sky, back in the 1980s. It was at night, and the thing I saw was trailing sparks of various colors, as if it were on fire. I was sure that it was some kind of space junk falling out of orbit, but space junk the size of a truck would certainly have made a big mess when it landed in a suburban area, and that would have been all over the media.
