Latest Out There Stories
The Out There section collects stories about strange events from all over the internet.
Videos and some other stories are graded:
A--Probably true, B--Likely true, C--Likely false, D--Probably false.

Stories are not researched by Unknowncountry.com staff before posting and video evaluations are based on experienced observation, not video analysis.

From Indonesia to India, there has been a wave of UFO sightings over Asia, and now this story appears in the Vietnamese English language press. Obviously, I cannot evaluate these reports, and the photo looks like a meteor, but still, they could represent an extension of the high levels of activity in the area.

This spectacular light show took place over Santiago on the night of December 18. What was it? Certainly not an aircraft. However, it could have been a fleet of balloons carrying flickering LED lights. Once, it would have been hard to generate enough luminosity from lightweight devices to create such a light show at this level, but that is no longer true. Still, this is a possible unknown.

This appears to be an ordinary lenticular cloud, except for that steadily glowing ring at the base. To be shaped like that, a plasma would need to be generated artificially, and, in any case, no naturally occurring plasma would remain stable for more than a few seconds. One other explanation is that the cloud is being lit from below, but there is no indication of any large lighted area under it, such as a stadium with a ring of floodlights. Lastly, it could be lit from within. If so, then what would be in it?

The number of triangle reports in the US in 2012 has been very high. The sightings are nationwide, but concentrated in the midwest. If these are drones of some kind, a massive surveillance program is under way in this country. If they are unknowns, which is what your Out There editor things, then it's STILL a massive surveillance program!

A police officer in the British Midlands observed a fast moving UFO with a pulsing blue light operating near the Birmingham airport. There is no reason to doubt this account.
Yet another close encounter with a huge black triangle. There are many, many of these cases being reported in the US midwest. Are these triangles ours or theirs? So far, the answer to that question remains unclear.

The object in this video first becomes easily visible approximately 50 seconds into the video. As the videographer speculates, it could be a string of balloons, but if so, then the winds aloft are very light. And yet the jet contrail dissipates quickly, suggesting that they are strong. This video was sent directly to us by the videographer. We are always ready to get them at whitley@strieber.com.

There is UFO activity worldwide. This is from Sri Lanka.
Brooklyn in the past few years has been the source of frequent UFO sightings, and now they appear to be back. Once again, lights in the sky prove little, but the way that these were acting caused quite a bit of interest. Certainly, witnesses did not think that they were a plane or anything else they considered normal.
It's not often that a reporter not only witnesses a UFO but files a report on it. From his paper, the Economic Voice:  “We were travelling back home from a family meal in Brecon in the dark when my youngest son pointed out a two very bright lights moving towards us from the direction of Cantref advancing at an approximated speed of 60mph in the direction of Groesffordd.”

The lights appeared to be facing down towards the ground and there was no noise coming from the craft, it was silent and my wife found this to be very unnerving, as did I.”

I caught a glimpse of a green light on the underside and my initial thought was I must be looking at the starboard light from a Hercules flying low on exercises as they frequently do in the Brecon Beacons, however there were no red port lights and then I noticed that there were another two green lights all at the other corners of what turned out to be a large black triangular shaped craft.”

We have recently received a number of reports in our report file of objects dripping material from them.

These waves of unknown objects can be recorded in the infrared almost anywhere. But what are they? They are not moving like birds, because the are generally all in parallel motion, like these. They cannot be planes. We would be most interested if you are recording such footage. Please let us know at whitley@strieber.com.

What in the world can this clip from Sky News mean? Is it a hoax? An accidental release? We'll be keeping our eyes and ears open.

Over the past few days, there have been a large number of UFO sightings reported from around the world, including the US, and in the United States, there have been numerous mystery booms. The video in this report could be either an unknown or a distant plane with its landing lights on, but that doesn't change the fact that the sighting rate right now is high.

Normally, surveillance cameras catch dust particles, insects and night birds that are mistaken for UFOs. This, however, does not appear to be any of those things. There is a reasonable possibility that this is a genuine unknown.

We just published a story about a loud boom, lights descending into Narragansett Bay and nothing being found. Incredibly, as the story sourced here shows, the same thing happened there on October 25. What is going on??
Unknown lights entered Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island accompanied by a loud explosion. Rescuers found nothing in the bay. This is reminiscent of the Shag Harbor UFO Incident that took place in Canada in 1967.
In October of 1988, Buck Stabler had a bizarre and terrifying experience of apparent alien abduction, which he reported to authorities and which was extensively covered in the media. The result was predictable: his life was ruined. And now he has been found dead, an apparent suicide, but the case is still under investigation. He was interviewed last September by Stan Hernandez, and that interview is sourced here. It does not suggest any suicidal plans, but it is clear that the trauma of his experiences was still very vivid for him, even all these years later.

Unknowncountry.com and Whitley Strieber take the position that the close encounter experience is of unknown origin, that it is traumatic, and that a lack of proper scientific study has left people who have it without recourse or an adequate avenue of support. If Mr. Stabler did take his own life, the tragedy is a strong testament to the need for proper study and useful help for the thousands of people who have experienced this trauma.
November yielded 86 triangle UFO reports in the United States. In a normal month, ten or fifteen are reported. These have been dismissed as secret US aircraft for years, but they have been reported since long before such exotic airframes were in existence. So what are they? New spyplanes that are just being deployed and perhaps tested over the US, or is this an addition to the rising number of unknowns, probably not ours, that has been going on worldwide since August?

This is an excellent mini-documentary on one of the world's best documented and extensive UFO cases, the Turkish case that unfolded between 2007 and 2009. It has been little covered in American media, so please spread the word! You can find more information here.

Recently the Out There section published a striking video from an astronomer in Kentucky. (Click on Kentucky UFO in the subject cloud to see it.) UFO activity in the state and the whole region remains at a high level.
See video
The objects in the photograph shown in this news story were seen not just in Princeton, Indiana, but all over the region. They did not behave like any known object, so they are certainly classifiable as UFOs. Editor's Note: I've been editing this section of Unknowncountry since the inception of the website. There is no doubt in my mind that UFOs represent something real. And yet, we never seem to progress beyond the point of objects in the sky and a smattering of close encounters a la Whitley Strieber. I think a lot about why this would be so, and I'm glad to see Frank Feschino back on Dreamland lately, because I believe he has a big part of the answer: we shoot at them. So, what would we do if natives on some isolated island shook their spears at us when we tried to approach them? Keep showing ourselves and wait until they got used to us. 'Nuff sed!

The descriptions of this event suggest that it was a large meteor breaking up over the region on the night of November 24. The Leonid Meteor Shower took place between November 17 and 20, but the shower was exceptionally weak this year. Most of the Leonids are no larger than a grain of sand, so this object is unlikely to have been associated with the shower.

Infrared video readily records birds, insects and even the smallest meteors. However, this video shows objects at altitude moving in a very steady formation. We have been unable to find any species of high-flying bird that might fly like this, and these object do not have the footprint of planes, which generally offer a much brighter return. Still, it's impossible to be certain that they are not something conventional. The smaller objects flashing past are probably meteors or birds, but the higher formation remains an unknown.

This witness account describes a large object hovering and emitting smaller objects. This was also a feature of the Camarillo UFO that appeared for six years between 1996 and 2002 over Camarillo, California.

It's not often that a UFO case gets such expert treatment as is seen here in Wes Penre's deeply researched and careful analysis of the Michael Lee Hill Lake Eerie UFO case. Noteworthy is the fact that a documentary that was being done by Spike TV on Hill was abruptly cancelled by 'higher authorities.' As many who have gone down that same road know, all too often, UFO related projects are abruptly cancelled for unknown reasons by media at every level. It is hard to believe that some sort of intervention from the outside is routinely suppressing sensible and positive stories about this subject.

Eight reports over five states in eleven hours potentially represents the beginning of a significant flap. We'll be watching the skies.

Many UFO reports come from Azerbaijan, but they are rarely mentioned in the west. Unfortunately, the video associated with this report is not available, but the report, if accurate, clearly identifies an unknown object. Russian missile tests are sometimes visible in the area, but this does not appear to be such a test.

Every video expert I send these images to dismisses them as video artifacts until I ask why. Then they say that's what NASA says they are. Frankly, I am having trouble believing that an image such as the one that appears here is a video artifact. There is a line of plasma between the object and the sun that is in no way related to the movement of the solar corona. I have to wonder what the constant appearance of objects such as this over the past five years might mean. If this is not a video artifact, then it is either something enormous interacting with the sun or it's much closer than it appears. If it is a huge object interacting with the sun, then our world is not what it seems.

A Denver man has offered video to a local TV station, claiming that it shows a UFO which he tapes every few days as it moves over the city between noon and 1 pm. The man has provided video which the station has had analyzed by an aviation expert, who says that it is not a bird, a plane or an insect. It is a genuine unknown. The station has also filmed it. So far, this ranks as one of the best UFO cases in recent years.

The most famous recurring UFO case is the Camarillo UFO, which appeared around Thanksgiving over Camarillo, California for six years beginning in 1996. Subscribers can listen to Dr Roger Leir discussing the UFO in December of 2003 in a special interview in our archive.
