Latest Out There Stories
The Out There section collects stories about strange events from all over the internet.
Videos and some other stories are graded:
A--Probably true, B--Likely true, C--Likely false, D--Probably false.

Stories are not researched by staff before posting and video evaluations are based on experienced observation, not video analysis.

Lest this clever hoax go viral as the real thing, take a look at this sequence of videos, then at the revelation at the bottom that they were all posted by graphics experts. It's a PR campaign of some kind, or maybe just a little midsummer madness.

Inexplicata, the Journal of Hispanic UFOlogy, reports that a flashing bright object was seen overhead in the Argentine town of Barrio el Carmen at noon on June 24. Video of the object is not detailed enough to determine whether or not the object is a piece of debris turning in the sun, but the reaction of residence suggest that what they were seeing had an extremely unusual appearance.

This is a probable unknown.

This object was photographed on June 17 at about 7:45 PM in Oshawa, Ontario. "It came out of nowhere" said wildlife photographer Ken Rice. It was visible for a short time, during which Rice managed to take two clear shots with his camera. He has been unable to identify it, and that goes for our photographic experts, too. It's not a computer graphic and if Mr. Rice's description of its speed of movement is correct, it isn't a balloon, either. This leaves "unidentified flying object" but don't assume that your Out There editor has concluded from this that aliens are now speeding around in giant pies.

The object is unidentified, and if anybody has seen or photographed anything similar, please send information to and we will share it with Mr. Rice and the rest of the world.

Ken Rice is an accomplished wildlife photographer, as is evident from his Facebook Page.

There have been a number of UFO sightings in Arizona recently, one on April 10 which was photographed by one witness, Maricio Morales, and, according to Mr. Morales, videotaped by another witness a hundred miles away.

Approximately 10 minutes prior to the sighting, a large meteor was sighted over the region, but the anomaly does not appear to have been related to it. Mr. Morales states, "ABC15 is reporting that the photos were part of the meteor. They were not. The meteor struck about 10 minutes before I pulled over on HWY 95 and got footage of these lights. The difference in lighting you see in the photos is because I was using different settings to get a more visible photo of what they were."

The witness who wrote Unknowncountry on April 18 stated, "Last night as my husband and I were sitting outside watching our new firepit - we were in the dark with no other lights on other than a softly glowing propane fire, I looked up into the sky and to the right of Venus in the East at approximately 8:15 PM, I saw a huge upside down triangle of lights." Both husband and wife saw them, and they disappeared one by one. This is a very typical description of a nighttime UFO triangle event.

Mr. Morales' photographs could be atmospheric refractions of car lights, but not if a video was made from the opposite side of the state, and not all of Mr. Morales' photos look like refractions. The Unknowncountry witness does appear to have seen something anomalous on April 17.

This object was recorded during an airshow by three different witnesses, all from different angles. One video would mean that the object could have been a bird flying at close range to the camera, but not three. In the third video especially, the object's motion suggests that it is not a bird or close-flying insect.
The object is not the plane creating the contrail. It is the small bright object that races past in all three videos, showing no contrail.

It is claimed that this object was taped in Normandy in western France, if so, then it is a form that appears from time to time and is a genuine unknown. However, it could also be fire on a mountainside and taped elsewhere. There are no mountains in Normandy high enough for this to be a fire on a mountainside in this geographical location.

This video from MUFON shows a white object shadowing a jet. The person who made the video says that other jets and helicopters followed soon after. There is nothing to suggest that this object is a drone, a balloon, a bird or any natural object. It is also pacing the jet, so it's not a celestial object. The only possibility other than a UFO is that it is a smaller plane at a lower altitude and so not emitting a contrail. But it is moving very quickly.

Your Out There editor concludes that this has a better than average chance of being a genuine unknown.

This video from an infrared camera aboard a police helicopter in the UK shows an object similar to one that has been taped in many situations. In normal light, it is bright silver metallic with a darker area in the center. In daylight video, the object appears to be able to vary the shape of the darker area.

It was recorded over the Bristol Channel in the UK, south of Wales. Your Out There Editor notes that the poster left comments on, and has received the usual moronic responses. People fear the unknown.

The still image shows similar objects that were videotaped in daylight, the one on the left in British Columbia and the one on the right in Mexico.

The first part of this video involving a doll's head moving on its own could have been created using CGI, but we don't think so because the second part of the video is difficult to explain as a hoax.

One of our video experts comments:

"The first one could have been CGI. -- the very poor resolution of the video can cover that sort of thing up very well.

"The second one is harder to explain. Puffs of air from hidden outlets (where??) could explain the papers, but the rest would have had to be accomplished with magnetic devices and very thin monofilament lines strung in various directions (hidden by poor video resolution ... and some crafty editing, because the girl's path would have had to cross at least one of those lines -- the one that would have been used to pull the tabletop toward the sofa.).

"But with that said, the objects' quality of motion looks convincingly anomalous, the girl's reactions seem natural, and I can see no actual evidence of trickery."

Another disagrees:

"Stop motion animation on the doll. It's been placed in after the fact. The stuff moving on the table looks like its done with a fan. But the heavier objects are a question and the table. But in the low res image wires could have easily been hidden.

"Looks like its faked to me. Especially the single frame animation which I'm so familiar with."

We rate this one B, possibly real, which gets to the question of what in the world is happening here? If real, it's really a most unusual video.

Ok, I'm going to buy into some probable lunacy. Maybe it's because I'm getting old and dotty, but the truth is that now that two of these things have been recorded by Curiosity, your Out There editor is--well--curious.

A could of years ago I was tempted to post the "floating spoon on Mars" story as a joke, but I didn't because it was just too funny and I didn't have time to confirm the image in the NASA original footage. But a couple of days ago, another of these objects was recorded. So, whatever these things are, they do qualify as a genuine mystery. They are pretty large, so if there are any aliens looming about who make use of them, there is going to be a rover photo eventually, perhaps of a huge hand?

The most recent discovery appears in the embedded video. To see the one from 2014, click here. (Enjoy the levitation. It's a nice touch. But unless someone at NASA is playing games, these are genuine anomalies.)

Merry Christmas all from icy Boston!
