This object appeared in Northern Italy recently. The video was posted on March 3, 2013. They have done enough work on the photograph to make it clear that it isn't a bird or a plane, and probably not a known object at all. (As always seems to be the case, the added music track is a grave mistake, but watch it with the sound muted and it's quite interesting.)

Within two weeks, substantial meteors have now been reported from Russia, the US and New Zealand. This one came down Sunday in Queenstown, and was large enough to be seen during the day. Clearly, it was not as large as the Russian meteor, but nevertheless, it's unusual for so many significant meteors to appear over such a short time. There is no known large meteor shower due until April, when the Lyrids are expected to appear. Do these meteors pose a danger? So far, one of them has caused significant damage and injuries from its shock wave, but there is no way to determine if any others as large or larger are heading toward Earth.

Your cynical (and oft burned) Out There editor cannot say for certain that this nighttime video is an unknown object. And the sound of an approaching helicopter suggests that something odd was taking place in the skies over an unidentified location. There is a Fox 13 chiron on the video. The problem is, none of the three Fox 13 stations in the US, in Salt Lake City, Seattle, Memphis or Tampa Bay, appear to use this particular chiron. So, is this a hoax? It's an interesting video, but until the chiron is identified the verdict has to remain: possible hoax.

This clip from a webcam watching the Popocatepetl volcano near Mexico City reveals a fast moving cigar-shaped object similar to one that apparently entered the volcano in October of last year. That video was dismissed by some experts as a hoax, but we saw it as possibly an authentic unknown. This new video reinforces that view. To see our October story, click here.

Mystery booms were heard in and around Columbia, South Carolina yesterday afternoon. No source was identified. There was nothing in the air making sonic booms, and no earthquakes took place. These explosive sounds are being heard all over the United States, in many different communities.

An reader also reported seeing strange lights in Florence, SC, last night. "There were 3 bright lights really close together hovering and then they began to flash and then they went off but after that there was a smaller red light."

If you have a report of unusual phenomena to offer us, please post it on our Sightings and Encounters page. All personal information remains confidential. To go to the page, click here.

This report has just been received by We are getting many such reports in, of large lighted objects that hover low and then dart away.

"Royal Oak Michigan
Details of Encounter: Giant circle of light in the sky appears while we were waiting at a red light, then zooms away faster than anything Either of us have ever seen. We both confirmed with each what had taken place because it was so abnormal."

I'm stumped, just like the author of this article. Are these solar arrays, some sort of agricultural system, or what? If you have certain knowledge of what they are, post a comment below. Or just an idea--post away!

On Sunday night, Feb. 17, 2013 at about 9:35 pm, my wife and I were watching TV when all of a sudden a huge, bright light came in through our window. It was so big and so close I thought an airplane was coming into our house. It just appeared out of nowhere. It didn't move across from one window to the next. It was like, not there one minute then just there!! I asked my wife if she saw that and headed for the door to go out and get a better look. We both saw something that was brightly lit with multicolored lights and it was kind of just rotating in the sky. The outer ring is what was lit and kind of reminded me of a hula hoop. That's what was rotating. It started to moved away slowly then started to pick up speed. As it moved away it didn't move in a straight line. It was kind of circling as it moved. Hard to describe but I know for a fact it wasn't an airplane. It was close enough that we could see that and besides, airplanes just don't move like that.

We stood there in the cold trying to figure out what the hell it was. After about a minute and a half to two minutes later, four very strange helicopters came across the sky moving in the direction the object had gone. They were the weirdest helicopters I had ever seen because they were all black with almost no lighting. And the weirdest thing about them was they made absolutely no noise. If we hadn't already been watching the sky we would have never seen them. They were flying in a two by two formation. Almost like a V shape.

After they had passed we noticed a big orange orb just hanging in the sky behind where the helicopters had come from. My wife at first thought it was a planet we were seeing because the sky was so clear at that moment. While we were looking at it, it just blinked out. It didn't go behind a cloud and it didn't fade. One moment it was there, the next it was gone.

We came inside to see if there were any special news reports and checked Facebook to see if anyone else was reporting this but there wasn't. My wife and I went back outside so she could smoke a cigarette because she was a little shaken up.

That's when we saw two bright white lights that look like stars but bigger chase each other across the sky for about 20 seconds and then they just stopped dead in their tracks and just hung there. The lead one was blinking intermittently. They stayed motionless for over 20 minutes. Clouds started to roll in and covered them as well as the moon. When the clouds finally cleared away and we could see again, they were gone.

Neither of us had been drinking, we don't use drugs, and we aren't crazy. This has really freaked my wife out and she was scared the rest of the night. I've had an experience similar to this before and think its just amazing. If there are any other reports of this that you hear of in the coming days or weeks in our area please let us know.

As we were going to bed I realized the first time I saw strange lights in the sky was about 6 years ago. It was also in mid-late February on a cold clear night. I stood in my backyard about 20 mins from where we live now, and watched about 5 or 6 bright lights chasing each other back and forth across the sky for about 5-10 minutes. This was later at night. Between 11:30pm & midnight eastern time. It was the first time I ever saw anything like that and the feeling I got watching it was indescribable. Nobody really took me seriously until last night. My wife definitely believes now.

Editor's Note: This report was received in the reporting area on this website. If you have a report, send it to us by clicking "Report Sighting or Encounter" on our masthead, or clicking here. Reports are posted without witness identifying information.

The helicopters the witnesses saw may have been stealth modified Sikorsky UH-60 or another, classified model. The UH-60 is both radar and sound stealthed, and was used on the Osama bin Laden raid.

The strange object pictured here was seen ascending over a bird sanctuary in England at 5:25 PM local time Wednesday. The object has an appearance uncannily similar to a ghost rocket that was photographed over Newfoundland on January 25, 2010. Despite an exhaustive investigation by Canadian authorities, the mystery of the rocket was never solved. Our best guess: this one won't be, either. The photos are genuine. For our story on the Canadian object, click here.

An reader sends this description of orange lights south of Kingman Arizone on Route 93, between 9 and 10PM February 7. The description of the operations suggests that these were not sky lanterns, but genuine unknowns:

Saw a bright orange light n the sky, seemed pretty big, thought it could be like a tower on a hill but the light sort of...retracted, like faded away and then suddenly appeared to the right. And then another orange light appeared.

They were big and glowing and we could see little tiny white lights that sort of looked like they came from the orange light of at least near it, they sort of zipped around, almost insect like, darting away from the orange balls of light and then back.

One of the orange lights appeared to shoot straight down towards the earth and then vanished, like it didn't hit, it just shot down and then the light retracted away. It was a good 20 minutes to a half hour of activity in the sky.

We pulled our truck over to a safe spot to watch. The orange lights were more obvious and dramatic but watching closely the little specks of white lghts were actually zipping arond the sky a lot more, swinging back and turning and....just so weird.

The Indian press is reporting that an unknown object appeared over the Reliance Industries oil refinery in Jamjagar, India. Photos were taken and the sightings were reported to Indian authorities by Reliance officials.

PMS Prasad, Reliance Executive Director, wrote to the Indian Minister of Petroleum, "On 24 January 2013 around 8.30 pm, one unidentified bright object, perceived to be of the size of a volleyball, was seen hovering over the refinery. It was seen to circle four times before disappearing. It could have been treated as a one-off occurrence, however the morning of 27 January again witnessed the same phenomenon between 6.30 and 7.00 am. Process cameras installed in the refinery caught some images."

The images have not been released, but obviously the story has a high level of credibility. The refinery is near the India-Pakistan border and is considered a high level target for terrorists. The Indian military is treating this as an incursion by an unknown form of high technology.

This object taped over McAllen, Texas on January 23 could be a plane, but if so it has a very unusual pattern of lights. Still two strobes are visible. However, UFOs often strobe as well. Probable unknown

This is documentary was produced by the Walt Disney Company in 1995. It only appeared in 5 states, and was then shelved. It has been something of a legend, and has now appeared on YouTube. How long will it be before Disney claims copyright, and it's gone again? Watch while you can.

For years, people have been clipping NASA footage from the space shuttle and the ISS that show strange lights and moving objects. For Whitley Strieber's 1999 NBC special Confirmation, a NASA spokesman was asked to watch the famous STS-80 video, and said, while looking at some of the most amazing such footage ever made, "I don't see any evidence of UFOs here." Now, NASA admits the truth: they don't know what these objects are, and have been observing them for years. One has to ask, what about the footage that HASN'T been released to the public?

This object was videotaped over Colombia on January 11. It displays intricate and impressive detail, but which is blurred in a manner that suggests that it may not be a computer graphic, which would have sharper edges, but is rather an actual object being recorded from a distance. If this is the case, then this is an unusually detailed daylight video of an unknown object.

This is a genuine unknown. The object appears very briefly, traveling at high speed. It is NOT the jet producing the contrail, but an object that flies from right to left across the window of the jet, between 14 and 15 seconds.

Originally, your Out There editor wrote: "At first, this appears to be a flock of birds, but it isn't a flock of birds. First, each object is independently lit by a light powerful enough to produce significant illumination in a sunlit sky. Second, there are no wing flapping motions. However, the objects do appear to be gliding on thermals, or they are being maneuvered to present this appearance. These are genuine unknowns, and very strange ones."

Unfortunately, I fell for a hoax video. I look at dozens of videos every day, always hoping to see something I genuinely can't explain. What I can't explain here is why I bought into this obvious hoax. Normally, I'm careful and quite successful at this. I seriously considered resigning after this, but Whitley Strieber wants me to stay. He said, 'I can't do this myself, and you're better than you think.' I'm going to continue what has become a profound and very engaging task for me, sifting through the chaff to find the occasional nugget of gold.

This photographer has done a fine job of creating a photographic analysis of an anomaly over Washington DC. There is no question of hoax here, or of a misidentification. This material is unidentified. Whether or not it could be identified as some sort of airborne pollutant or extremely lightweight floating debris is another question. However, some of the transformations that take place are very fast, which only adds to the high strangeness.

This is an interesting compilation of sightings for January 2013. Your Out There editor isn't going to comment on each one, but a number of them appear authentic. Some advice: as always, Third Phase of Moon has added a music track that is, shall we say, not to everyone's taste. Watch on mute if it screeches your blackboard the way it does mine.

There is no reason to doubt that this object is not a genuine unknown. Its shape is typical of many such objects, it is moving at far too high a speed to be a balloon or a radio controlled toy. It is an unknown object.

Is this an x-ray and photo of an alien? According to this video, Dr. Steven Greer thinks it's possible. The video states that he has been studying the remains of a small apparent alien that were found in South America three years ago in an area well known for UFO activity. However the remains are only six inches long and could be that of a fetus of a human being or another primate. More study is needed to determine exactly what this is.

This series of images from a wildlife camera in south Texas near the town of Nixon shows a triangle of lights near a deer feeder. There is also a mist that local residents say is unexplained. This could be an indication of more UFO activity in the area, but there is no way to verify that these nighttime photographs are actually anything unusual.

The video playing here is a local news report about the sightings in the area. There is far more sighting activity than imagery coming from the area, which is what makes the video important. Local MUFON investigators are doing a useful job.
See video
Witnesses in the town of Amherst, Massachusetts observed a triangular UFO hovering silently over the community between 5:30 and 6:30 on the evening of January 8. The triangular formation of lights remained stationary or moved slowly, and was absolutely silent. At first, the FAA said there was no air activity in the area, but then the Air Force announced that a C5-A was in the region at the time. However, the UFO was silent and the C5-A, the largest aircraft in the world. creates a substantial amount of noise. The plane was not flying at an altitude too high for that noise to reach the ground, and winds in the area were light.

Therefore it's unlikely that the UFO and the running lights of the C5 are the same thing, and the object remains a possible unknown, another in the long list of triangle UFO sightings that have been taking place with increasing frequency for the past year.

This triangle is so easy to miss, it's hard to believe that it was even spotted. But it's there. Hard to believe that this is space debris. It is also clearly visible in the photograph in NASA's gallery. To see it, click on the image to enlarge it, and look to the upper right. The NASA image can be found here.

This photo appears on the NASA website, so it's unlikely to be a fake. The question, though, is what is this enormous triangular object near the International Space Station? NASA dismisses it as space debris, but it must be noted that a very substantial number of triangle videos and photographs have been taken from the ground in recent months.

This object over Calgary is probably not a star. It's difficult to be certain looking at the non-enhanced video, but the witness could apparently see enough with the naked eye to be inspired to shoot this video. This is a probable unknown. December 26 seems to have been a busy night over Canada.

This image is of real lights in the night sky. It is not photoshopped. There is no flicker, and the speed of movement is too great for them to be candle lanterns. They are too bright to be LED lights suspended from balloons, and are not floating. These are genuine unknowns.

Friday, January 18, 2013

See video
An reader took this video over Phoenix on the night of January 12. This is not a formation of candle lanterns unless they are held together by a frame that is, in turn, being kept aloft by an unseen balloon. This is possible, but they would almost certainly twirl slowly if they were dangling from a balloon, and there is no evidence of that. This may be a constructed object hoax, but it may also be an unknown.

The individual who took the video has determined that the wind direction that night was westerly, but the object was moving east. Here is his full report:

I pulled in to a strip mall for work and saw this in the sky from my car.  It is a triangle of 3 lights traveling West to East, mostly white looking light with a slight yellow tint.   I saw it when it was directly in front of me facing Elliot Road from the strip mall at 1989 West Elliot Road.   Elliot is the road on the video.  It is North of me.   The lit up buildings at the end, in the direction of travel, are East of me.  There are two clips put together in this video because I still had my door closed and my seatbelt on when I began the first shot.  I stopped the camera to get out.  There were no navigation lights visible like urban aircraft would have, even as the angle changed when they flew past.  It was just these 3 single lights.   There was no noise that I heard except ground traffic.   It held the same triangle formation the whole time which is what really caught my eye.   A cursory look at wind information from that time, says that the wind should have been blowing West,  the opposite direction.
There is some small change in the formation of the triangle, especially when viewed at higher speed but it seems to reform itself to maintain the shape.   I don't know if this is a change in formation, perspective, or both.  Behind it was nothing but black background so there was no way to know how high or low it was or if I could see through the middle of the triangle shape.  It was below what appeared to be a low lying cloud layer with lots of moving mist in the air above me.  Stars were visible in the Southern sky and the horizon to the West but not where the lights were.  It was also a very cold night, around 32 degrees or so.
The lights had a gentle flickering appearance like the flame in lanterns. On the video this appears more like the twinkling of stars but at the very beginning of the sighting I saw a detail in the light that actually appeared a little like a candle flame.  My immediate thought when it was closest to me was that I was seeing candles in Chinese lanterns or kerosine lanterns drifting silently on unseen balloons, maybe even flares drifting on parachutes.  But there was no glowing lampshade like the Chinese lanterns have, no evidence of balloons and also no lit up smoke trail like flairs have around them.  The formation was also so controlled looking that it was hard to accept it as free drifting items, even though it was silent, like watching balloons or lanterns float by.  That made me think of a military aircraft formation, but the lights were very peculiar for aircraft and they would be moving awfully fast if they were way up high.  It was also much too big a shape to be a kite or a hang glider with LED's on it.  It felt like it would be football field sized if it was only 100-500 feet above me, let alone higher.  This is what made me realize it was unusual and I should get it on video for investigation.
The video looses the lights at the end but to my eyes it never vanished or made any sudden moves. It just slowly, silently, drifted past until the dots of light were too small for the phone viewfinder to resolve anymore.  I saw it with my eyes for another minute or so before it finally traveled behind the buildings.  Total time from seeing it till it was gone, maybe 3 minutes.
My final observation which is harder to make out on the video is that the triangle became distorted slightly as it moved the furthest away, close examination of the original footage shows this more clearly at the end.  The triangle began to get squashed looking as if the the front light was moving inward to form a vertical line.  At first I thought it was changing formation but it may also have been a perspective illusion as the angle I viewed it from changed . . or both.  The illusion would be of a larger triangle shaped object, slowly banking left.   There are clearly a bunch of optical illusions possible here which is why I am having such a hard time knowing what to make of it."

This video could easily have been made in a computer, and yet it's the second video to appear showing objects above the lunar surface in just the past week. Could something be going on up there? If you are have a telescope, it might be worth a look. (The Independent piece sourced here makes some good points about the comments on the video by the YouTube trolls.)
