Latest Out There Stories
The Out There section collects stories about strange events from all over the internet.
Videos and some other stories are graded:
A--Probably true, B--Likely true, C--Likely false, D--Probably false.

Stories are not researched by Unknowncountry.com staff before posting and video evaluations are based on experienced observation, not video analysis.

This could easily be a digitally produced hoax, and the lack of any other videos or news stories about what would seem to have been a very prominent event would suggest that this is the case. Also, the video is abruptly cut off before the object does anything. Was this because the animator got tired of extending the image? It would seem that a person videotaping the real thing would have continued until it moved away, and not simply abandoned this incredible sighting right in the middle of the action. Making animations, on the other hand, is tedious, which is why most of the hoaxes we see end abruptly, usually in the middle of the action.

If the object is real, then it is an unknown, and one has to wonder what would happen if such objects appeared over not one city, but ten, a hundred, a thousand?

Now that farmers can hire circlmakers to decorate their fields for fun and PROFIT, more and more manmade formations are appearing. Some of them are even quite striking--from a distance. Up close, though, you find broken stems, no interweaving and generally rough edges. This formation, however, is among the most magnificent ever created. No human circlemakers are even close to the skill level required to create this superb work.

This red streak shot by one of the the International Space Station's fixed cameras appears to be a meteor entering the earth's upper atmosphere, but if so, then it is fully alight at a very high altitude. It's an unusual image, possibly unknown in origin.

There have been so many of these objects recently, I thought that I would post this digest of a number of the sightings.

A UFO has been videotaped by witnesses from inside a crop formation at Avebury. This is one of the rare occasions when a UFO has actually been recorded near a crop formation. The famous 'Oliver's Castle Video' of a UFO making a crop formation is widely discounted as a hoax. This could have been a high flying weather balloon or an iridium flare from a satellite, but it also could be a genuine unknown. It is not a hoaxed video. Your Out There editor has seen iridium flares, and they glitter, so that is probably the least likely explanation. In my book, a high-flying balloon is the most likely explanation, but it would have to have been quite large.

This object moves very quickly from left to right in the lower part of the frame. Its motion is too quick to be a balloon and too straight to be an insect or a bird. Probable unknown. (Note: One of the YouTube trolls comments that his "software" has determined a distance for the object, and that it is an insect. Without knowing its size or having any triangulation points, no such determination is possible, and no software exists that can do it without those inputs.)

The ECETI Ranch in Trout Lake, Washington has been a hotbed of UFO sightings for years. Locals have tried hard to shut it down, but it's still going strong.

This video has been made from a series of stills taken by Curiosity every few seconds. The stills were taken approximately every second or so, judging from the fact that the shadows and the sun do not move. If you look at this in full screen mode, you will see one object rise from the surface on the horizon, and another one cross the entire horizon from left to right. It isn't clear what these objects are. Contrary to some of the commentary (it is exceptionally stupid, even for YouTube), the objects are not part of the Curiosity mission's hardware. In addition, this low resolution camera would not be able to pick up an orbiting satellite from the ground. The object that crosses the horizon must be in the atmosphere, moving rather slowly in relation to the camera, and either very large or close enough for the camera to record it.

This is an interesting and unusual video. It is not presently explained.

This video has caused quite a sensation, but apparently it's an actor called Frank Vidal. To see Mr. Vidal in another video, doing a monologue from a play, click here. The real question is who would decide to post such a video, and why now? The Earth's magnetosphere is well along in a process of change that will lead to another pole shift, but, contrary to the claim in the "Dr. Sal" video, there is no evidence that it will happen in August of 2016, nor is there any reason to believe that the Van Allen belts would come to Earth as the video claims. What will happen, though, is that during the period of magnetic chaos while the poles are shifting, the surface of the Earth will be exposed to gamma rays and other energies from the sun that the magnetosphere normally keeps away from the surface. There will be significant danger to crops, large animals that do not shelter, and people who cannot find adequate shelter. It will be a  difficult time on Planet Earth, but there is no evidence that it will happen in two years.

The video is hardly conclusive, but the humming sound is very eerie and the dog's barking is typical of canine reaction to UFOs. Given the nearby thunderstorm and the lack of proper lighting, it is improbable that this is a blimp. An apparent genuine unknown, and an excellent audio catch.

There are numerous UFO reports coming in from South Texas and Southern California at present. This video of pulsating lights over Beverly Hills is an example. The lights are not normal aircraft and do not appear to be floating like balloons. This could well be a video of unknown objects.

This is a very good article that points out what I see every day: the vast majority of UFO videos that appear online are either crude hoaxes or impossible to pin down. I often wonder about the hoaxers. What are they trying to accomplish, I wonder? Drunks, maybe, trying to have a little fun between beers?

Out There Editor steps up on sopabox.

This story from Queensland in Australia is typical of about half a dozen we get in each day. It's not spectacular. There is no reason to disbelieve it. And the world continues to ignore the truth: something in haunting our skies. But why are we so passive about it? As Whitley Strieber points out in Solving the Communion Enigma, science has all the tools necessary to solve the UFO and close encounter questions. But few scientists dare to get near the subject, and there is no grant funding whatsoever. None. Given the thousands of UFO sightings every year and the millions of close encounter experiences, this is so completely irrational that it seems like some level of control is being exerted to prevent us from looking at the subject rationally.

This one is difficult to evaluate. There are kites with LED lights that could appear like this. But it emits lighted objects toward the end of the video, so this could well be a genuine unknown.

The helicopter is hovering. The object near it is not flying aerodynamically. An interesting video, for sure.

For the first three quarters of this video, this appears to be a blimp maneuvering in the sky behind the Statue of Liberty. Nothing unusual there. But then the thing speeds up, going much faster than a blimp, and emits a stream of smoke. This is very similar to a 1952 sighting described by Dr. Paul A. Hill in his book Unconventional Flying Objects. The only caveat here is that this poster has a number of UFO posts--but they're certainly not CGI effects. Rather, they're more-or-less wishful thinking, not actual UFOs. This, however, is a very different kettle of fish. This may well be a craft of unknown origin.

This is an excellent capture from video being streamed by NASA from the International Space Station. The Gather.com article says that it couldn't possibly be a satellite, but, in fact, it could be. It could also be a manmade device of some kind, perhaps classified. It could also be an alien spacecraft, of course. There is no question about it being a hoax. It is genuine video.

These stills record a type of UFO that has been seen and photographed for at least forty years. The witnesses' description of his dog's reaction is also typical of the phenomenon.

A seeming UFO was captured by numerous sources moving slowly over the Olympic venue during the opening night fireworks display. Close analysis of the video shows that the object was functioning like a lighter than air craft, not like something that doesn't need lift. Therefore your Out There editor comes down in favor of the idea that it was a blimp. No markings on it, though, I'll give you that.

These are not candle lanterns because of the absolute precision of the triangle. There have been a number of genuinely anomalous crop formations in that country this month, also.

Similar shapes have been noticed before, but they appeared to be contrails of some sort. This object is very clearly physical and suggests that this form of UFO might become more common, if past experience is any example. Of course the YouTube Hoaxer community will probably start making them as well.

This could easily be a photo of a meteor or a star, but witness testimony suggests otherwise.

A strange light in the sky, a helicopter in the area. The light disappears. Very strange.

It doesn't have to be a UFO story to qualify for the Out There section. This is not a UFO story, but you do have to wonder just what this guy is up to? Or what this guy IS?

Google Moon offers the opportunity to examine lunar photographs in detail, and researchers are finding some very unusual images. Of course, they will all be dismissed as things like dropped pixels or distortion, but frankly, there are too many of them at this point. Filmmaker Jose Escamilla is also working on a documentary about the moon that offers a narrative very different from NASA's. To see the trailer, click here.

This 'object' is probably a lens effect. Your Out There Editor stands corrected. An explanation appears on another video of precisely the same phenomenon in Port Chester, New York. Here is the explanation from the comments section of the Port Chester video:

I saw and filmed the same phenomena 2 summers ago, but being in the video montage industry, I used a video deshacker (Deshacker for VirtualDub) and analyzed the video frame by frame. It was clear then what I was seeing as a second sun was actually a reflection cause by the lens of the camera because on a few frames, I could see the_ anomaly (second sun) jump up and down compared to the sun. If this was really an object in space, this would never happen. Cheers Dan

Your Out There editor's first impression of this capture was that it was a meteor swarm. But then I looked deeper into this YouTuber's page and found another video of something somewhat similar that is definitely NOT a meteor swarm. So what has he found? This guy is worth watching. Sometimes people who show an interest in what's out there get rewarded with a pretty spectacular display. To see the other, even stranger video, click here. My best guess now is that we are looking at living creatures of some sort. Pretty amazing stuff.

And hey, speaking of pretty amazing, Whitley has published a new novel as an ebook. I got a copy the second I saw his post, and I've just started it. All I can say is THE GUY CAN WRITE. The first couple of chapters are just breathtaking. You can get it on your Kindle, Nook, etc., or from the UC store as a PDF.

This video, taken with an infrared camera, is almost certainly authentic. However, it could as easily be a classified aircraft as a UFO from another world. Its flight characteristics, however, suggest that it is not an aerodynamic object but is staying aloft by some other means.
