We have too many tires and we don't know how to dispose of them. Here's a logical idea: Turn them into roads.
They can also be turned into streets that are QUIETER, and long term exposure to noise has been proven to be bad for our health (NOTE: Subscribers can still listen to this show).
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one heart attack in 50 in industrialized nations is caused by chronic exposure to loud traffic, and it's not just the pollution that's doing it. By adding rubber "crumbs" to regular paving materials, engineers have found that they can cut traffic noise by 25%. Since more and more people are moving into cities, all over the world, this would decrease mortality worldwide.
Wouldn't you rather hear a whisper than a roar? (NOTE: Subscribers can still listen to this show too).
