A mysterious object “moving very fast across the northern sky” was spotted near the San Bernardino Mountains around 10 a.m. on July 1st. In the July 2nd edition of the Los Angeles Times, Richard Winton writes that the fireball was reported in an area from the Hollywood Hills to the Nevada state line. The local fire station received dozens of calls about it. Winton quotes dispatcher Tom Barnes as saying, “We got quite a few reports. It started with a gentlemen in the Lake Arrowhead area reporting a fireball in the Meadow Bay area, and then we started getting calls from all over.” It was described as yellowish-green in color. No signs of a crashed airplane have been found.
