UFO Reports Destroyed
05-Mar-2010

The British Ministry of Defense has issued a policy memo stating that all new UFO reports it receives will be destroyed after 30 days. The destruction of UFO reports is nothing new. After an investigation was initiated by a congressman into the Roswell Incident, the General Accounting Office found that all trace of any records from the Roswell Army Air Field between 1947 and 1952 had been mysteriously destroyed.

As more people wise up and stop smoking, there is less call for heavily-subsidized tobacco plants, so researchers are looking for new ways to use this plant. Besides biofuel, they may make natural spray-on solar panels.

Why was there No Tsunami?
04-Mar-2010

The earthquake in Chile was so strong that it changed the tilt of the Earth's axis, but it did NOT produce the huge waves (tsunamis) that scientists were worried about. Why not?

The Mysterious Placebo Effect
04-Mar-2010

Researchers are so excited about the placebo effect that the NIH (National Institutes of Health) has started a special study of it. One of their discoveries is that, although it all takes place inside our brains, for some unknown reason it seems to be working BETTER than it used to. This is a subject that Anne Strieber discusses with Mark Waldman in this week's Dreamland.

Flu: Is the Recession Saving Us?
03-Mar-2010

Physicians can't figure out why the Swine Flu pandemic never happened and why there is so little ordinary flu around. It could be that the stress of the economic recession is strengthening our immune systems (and many of us have other types of stress as well!)

Earthquake in Chile Changed Spin of Earth
03-Mar-2010

One earthquake leads to another, even if the places where they happen are far apart in both time and place. The massive, 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Chile Feb. 27 occurred in an offshore zone that was under increased stress caused by a 1960 quake of magnitude 9.5. Also, The massive 8.8 earthquake may have changed the entire Earth's rotation and shortened the length of days on our planet.

What happened to the Flu Pandemic?
02-Mar-2010

Something strange is going on: Normally, this is the peak period for the flu in the United States. But that just doesn't seem to be the case this year. Since both bird flu and swine flu turned out to be scares that went nowhere, many people are turning their backs on new flu scares, considering them to be just more hype. But should they? When scientists combined the two viruses in a lab, the newly-created virus proved extremely lethal to mice. If it happens in nature, what will it do to us?

Huge Iceberg Breaks in Two
02-Mar-2010

Could hasten climate change - An iceberg the size of a small European country has broken off from a glacier in Antarctica after being rammed by another giant iceberg. This could effect the circulation of the jet stream in the ocean, which would in turn affect climate change. It could also be lead to starvation for the local penguins.

Fierce Winter Storm Strikes Europe
01-Mar-2010

As a series of snowstorms choked the eastern US, winter storm Xynthia has struck Europe, killing at least 50 people, mostly in France. Winds exceeding 90 MPH hit Portugal, then turned up the Bay of Biscay, breaching sea walls and flooding towns in France so suddenly that many of the victims were trapped on streets, in cars and in their homes. The storm moved on into central France, where it continues to wreak havoc.

01-Mar-2010

While health care is being debated by a black president and a mostly white congress, it's interesting to note something that may not be "PC," but is true nevertheless: blacks and whites get different diseases, even here in the US where the lineage of African-Americans is so racially mixed.

The Science of Show Biz
26-Feb-2010

Mathematicians dissect movies & TV shows - Hollywood's "golden age" seems to have ended in the 1950s. Up until that time, everyone went to the latest blockbuster and discussed it afterwards, but today, with so many choices at home (such as video games, the internet and cable TV), people are choosy about what they pay money for a ticket to see. But some mathematicians think it has to do more with the WAY films are made today than their content.

What Was Wrong with the Boy King?
24-Feb-2010

Marrying a close relative, as ancient Egyptian royalty often did, is not a good thing to do. Researchers are now discovering that autism is often overlooked in girls and is tied to anorexia. At least there's one less thing to worry about: Vaccines do NOT cause autism.

Airport Scanners & Lead: Reason to Panic?
24-Feb-2010

Linda Howe disagrees! - As mandated by the Transportation Security Administration in the wake of the failed attempt by would-be bomber Umar Farouk, many airports in the United States may soon have full body scanners, and people want to know if they are safe. Does their radiation pose a health risk to those who are scanned? While many critics of the program have argued such scanning can increase the risk of cancer, others, including the American College of Radiology (ACR), say this technology has little risk, so we can breathe easy (at least for the coming year). NOTE: In her current Dreamland report, Linda Howe disagrees with this assessment!

Terrorism
22-Feb-2010

What's it REALLY all about? - As the face of terrorism changes, one reporter is asking a provocative question: "Who would benefit politically from a major terrorist incident on American soil, ready, willing and able to step into the breach and exploit the catastrophic loss of human life that would follow in its wake?" His answer: the world's covert agencies, including MI-6 and the CIA. This is reminiscent of charges that the war in Iraq was waged partly (or mainly) to benefit big businesses such as the oil companies and Halliburton. Future wars will not be the same as wars of the past. (They may not even involve human beings).

Is the Government Experimenting on Humans?
22-Feb-2010

The REAL "Shutter Island" movie! - It's a conspiracy, all right: A clothed, mutated human body recently washed ashore on Plum Island, which is located about 100 miles northeast of New York City in the Long Island Sound and the place where the US allegedly studies dangerous animal diseases. This is just another example of abuses that could be taking place behind the walls of the secret government. First, a mutated animal, apparently a deformed raccoon, washes up on a shore near Plum Island, then, eighteen months later, a mutated human body is found on the island itself. This could mean that experiments with human beings are taking place on the island. It could also be that the dead man suffered from Marfan's Syndrome, but what he was doing lying dead on a beach near a notorious biological laboratory needs to be clearly explained.

Will Disclosure Mean the End of Religion?
19-Feb-2010

The Vatican is actively concerned about this: Aside from having their own array of telescopes in Arizona that are constantly searching the skies, they recently held a conference in Rome on UFOs. A lot of this revolves around a central question: Is there life after death? A doctor who treats cancer patients says that according to the scientific evidence, the answer is "yes."

The recession has something to do with this too: Green tea and soy are the types of foods that women consume who are not in the lowest socio-economic class, which is a group that tries to avoid sugar and processed foods. Scientists have noticed that women from poor backgrounds are more likely to die from breast cancer, and they want to know why. The Nasty Truth About GM Foods

Eventually, the biotech industry wants to genetically engineer every type of vegetable, fruit, grains, and beans. After that, they will begin to bioengineer animals.
