Art Bell Has Died

A message from Whitley Strieber: At 10:30 on the morning of Friday, April 13, Art Bell died. He passed away peacefully in his sleep, and there is at this time no known cause of death. The family had hoped to delay an announcement of his death, but the story was released by the Nye County Sheriff's Office against their wishes.

Art was beloved of many millions of listeners and fans. He revolutionized late night radio with his famed show, Coast to Coast AM, which remains a popular feature on stations around the country, hosted by George Noory. He was also a dear friend of mine. We were born just three days apart in 1945 and over our 30 years of friendship we shared many wonderful hours together on the air and as friends in our private lives.

Condolences to his family.

Condolences to his family and to you Whitley. He was the talented voice of a movement. The owl graphic is befitting and classy. We know.

"Pioneer of the open mind" indeed! Whitley, you and Art kept me sane in the darkest times of my life. God bless both of you.

I would listen to him with regularity in the late 90's to around 2001. It's strange even with so much time removed how in hearing this news of his passing the distinct sense of desolation it's provoked for me.

Art perhaps did more towards spreading thoughtful engagement of the paranormal to the masses of modern Western culture than anyone.

With him gone, maybe this inexplicable feeling desolation I have is a sense of there being no more illusions about Western culture as we know it ever coming around.

We're alone. It's up to us to attempt to seriously engage with whatever exists of ourselves and reality beyond the materialistic reductionist paradigm of life and its trappings, while we can. Now.

R.I.P Art Bell. You have entertained and inspired me for years and will continue to do so.

May 13? It is still April.

Rest In Peace May you continue your life and work from The Other Side. And did you choose Friday the 13th.

That should say April 13th. May his soul be blessed!

Sad news indeed. Thank you Art, and may the mysteries of the world be even more wondrous from the other side of the veil.

So very sorry to learn of the passing of your dear friend, Whitely. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and his family.

Your tribute to Art is beautiful Whitley. I loved the book you wrote with Art and I loved the movie they made from it. And it's coming true - climate change IS real. Art was a wonderful pioneer as you are. He was so wonderful on Coast to Coast and it has never been the same since he left it. I loved the shadow people episode Art made. God bless him - he was a pioneer that's for sure.

Art Bell opened the wider universe to me. I used to tape his shows on my C Crane Versacorder so that I wouldn't miss anything. Even without a guest on the show he could keep us enthralled. RIP

We all owe Art Bell a great deal of gratitude and debt. He introduced me and so many others to amazing new means and ways of thinking.

And......I hope he won't be offended by a quip about the date. Friday the 13th? Really? He's probably getting a kick out of that. :)

Rest In Peace Art Bell.

oh man.
i remember getting turned on to Art Bell in mid 90s. ...1996. Art sure had a way about him. Thats how I came across Whitley S. even though George N. took over for him some years ago, i will always remember him broadcasting, "...from the high desert.." A passing of an ICON. I recall guests from time travellers to witches to Mel's hole. Oh, dont forget the remote viewers too! The one thing i am sorry for is the seemingly constant threat to his family. Lastly, yeah, Friday the 13th. 13=4 April is = 4 even 10:30 = 4. (yep there was some cherry-pickin) service, patience, devotion. 2018=2.
Art, you will be sorely missed. Thanks for your craft and your bravery. Blessings to your family.

Time spent listening to Art Bell was magical. I will miss him and all the wonderful people he introduced us to, who have also, sadly passed on. Glad we still have you Whitley. Thank you for the memories Art Bell. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.

God bless Art Bell.

I was privileged to have spoken with him a couple of times by phoning into Coast from my sleepy little English village.

Art had a lovely way of putting you at ease while millions listened and nerves crackled away. All our warm thoughts emanate toward him and he'll be looking back on a life filled with mystery and adventure.

Godspeed Art Bell. See you on the flip-side Old friend.

Nick.
