The secret is out: US scientists monitoring shrinking
glaciers in Washington and Alaska are warning that a major
glacier meltdown is under way. Glaciers
worldwide are melting faster than anyone had
predicted they would, which will lead to rapidly rising ocean
levels along the coasts.
Major
cities may drown, and since this news is so sudden and
unexpected, many of them will be
caught
unawares.
On CNN, Shelby Lin Erdman quotes USGS climate researcher
Edward Josberger as saying, "These changes are taking place
in Washington State and Alaska in three different climate
regimes, so we feel it's definitely something going on,
probably on a global scale, and of course, if you look at other
such measurements around the world and put it all together,
yes, glaciers are retreating and retreating rapidly."
