In an eerie reprise of
the Coming
Global Superstorm and
the Day
After Tomorrow, the Los Angeles area has experienced one of
its worst storms of the past hundred years. The storm, which
included a verified tornado in Van Nuys that took the roofs
off of houses and uprooted trees, flooded the city with
upwards of five inches of rain. Downtown Los Angeles has not
recorded a rainfall this heavy in the past fifty years.
At least 500,000 people in the area were without power at
various times during the storm, and parts of the city
remained without electricity or were experiencing rolling
blackouts on Thursday.
The storm blocked highways with mudslides, was responsible
for at least sixty auto accidents--and was predicted to
continue through Thursday and possibly through the weekend.
